His fascination for off-beat narratives is legendary. Be that his widely acclaimed films like SATYA and COMPANY or his biggest flops like RGV KI AAG, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has the daring spirit to make films which others won’t even dare to conceive.
Once again RGV has come up with another hard hitting film titled DEPARTMENT. Unlike his earlier film COMPANY which looked at the politics within the underworld, DEPARTMENT is a movie that showcases politics within the police.

So, what makes RGV choose such themes which are bordering on the dark? According to the filmmaker, “I have an affinity towards darker stories. Simple people and simple stories bore me. I am mostly a gangster. Just because I didn’t have the guts to become one for real I became a filmmaker to make films on gangsters,” he chuckles.

So is RGV convinced that DEPARTMENT will mark his comeback to his erstwhile charismatic filmmaking style? Pat comes his reply, “My job is to direct a film to the best of my abilities and whether it works or not is never in my hand. I put the same passion and interest in every film that I make. Why one becomes SATYA and the other AAG is beyond me.”
DEPARTMENT which features Sanjay Dutt, Big B , Rana Daggubati and his latest find Nathalia Kaur hits the screens on the 18th of May.
