Karan Johar is known for responding to trolls through cryptic notes on his Instagram stories. His latest post is no exception. On Saturday, the filmmaker wrote about the fading nature of kindness, saying, “Kindness was once a virtue… now it’s a limited edition emotion… it’s never in stock and there are way too many replicas!”
His video comes at a time when an Elvish Yadav of Bigg Boss OTT 2 fame has a viral video against him. The video is a clip from his podcast where Elvish was talking about nepotism in Bollywood with Ankita Lokhande. While Ankita tried to say that groupism was there, not bias, she was cut off by Elvish who gave a sly poke at Karan Johar as well. “Karan Johar ko aisa mat bolo,” he said.
However, Ankita strongly defended the director, saying groupism is seen everywhere in the industry, even with Karan Johar. Vicky Jain, her husband, weighed in on the conversation by bringing up a relevant point that favors the debate regarding nepotism-the film industry favors people within the industry who are known than outsiders.
This is not the first instance of Johar being criticized for the topic. Actress Kangana Ranaut had accused him several times of being the “flag-bearer of nepotism.” At one point during an episode of Koffee With Karan in 2017, she labelled him a “movie mafia.” Recently, in 2023, she trolled about his film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, and he should “let youngsters come forward with their fresh films for all to latch on to.”.
With the controversy being reignited by comments from Elvish Yadav, it seems Johar’s cryptic note on kindness is a subtle response to the criticism going around.
