Disney has released the last trailer for its live-action Snow White, before its March 21 theatrical release. The new adaptation features Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. The movie reimagines Disney’s 1937 animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale of 1812.
A Long Development Journey
The movie has been in development for almost ten years. Re-makes of the animated classic were first greenlit in 2016, with screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson onboard since the beginning. Director Marc Webb came aboard in 2019, officially setting up shop that same year. Production was largely done in London from March to July 2022, with additional shoots in June 2024 after the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Controversies over the Film
Notwithstanding the excitement over the live-action remake, the film has been involved in a number of pre-release controversies. Criticism has varied from casting to shifts in the story and Snow White’s discontent over the original movie. The biggest controversy, though, has been Disney’s remake of the seven dwarfs, a favorite in the original movie. The fans of the original movie have had strong reactions over these changes.
A New-Telling for a New Generation
Snow White is the protagonist of the story as she partners with seven dwarfs to regain her kingdom from the Evil Queen. The movie seeks to intertwine adventure, song, and contemporary storytelling in order to appeal both to old fans and new viewers. There is also Andrew Burnap, Martin Klebba, and Ansu Kabia, with Burnap starring as Jonathan, a new character who is Snow White’s romantic interest.
As the hype keeps mounting, the last trailer gives a preview of the visual style of the movie and the iconic scenes from the original tale.
