Coolie, one of the most eagerly awaited Tamil movies this year, was released in theaters over Independence Day weekend, offering a mass action extravaganza by director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Starring Rajinikanth in the savage Deva, the movie boasts an impressive cast with Nagarjuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, and an unexpected debut by Aamir Khan in a Tamil film.
Aamir Khan’s Climax Cameo Creates Buzz
The climax of the movie has created a buzz on social media, courtesy Aamir Khan’s appearance as Daaha, a dark and mysterious figure behind an international crime network. Deva’s quest to enter and destroy Simon’s (Nagarjuna) empire turns into a stunning revelation—Simon is a puppet, and Daaha is the real brains behind it. In a twist, Daaha makes an offer of alliance to Deva, who is evasive, opening up possibilities for future stories.
LCU Connection: Debunked
Fans had wondered if Coolie would be connected to the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU)—which comprises Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo. But whereas Leo’s connection to Vikram was direct, Coolie does not have any. Lokesh had earlier ensured that the film does not belong to the LCU, and the fact that there is no post-credit teaser or any relation to Suriya’s Rolex only reinforces this.

Box Office Roars Despite LCU Exclusion
Though not attached to the LCU, Coolie is setting records. Advance bookings have gone past ₹100 crore and is expected to give Leo a run for one of the largest Tamil cinema all-time openings.
With high-octane action, multi-layered plot, and star performances, Coolie shows that it doesn’t take a cinematic universe label to leave an impression. It is Rajinikanth’s biggest outing in years, supported by an interesting twist and Aamir Khan’s memorable Tamil debut.
