Hollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan have come forward to assist the affected. Through their respective charities, both the actors are actively making contributions towards relief and rehabilitation work in the state.

Meer Foundation Reaches Out to 1,500 Households

Shah Rukh Khan’s Meer Foundation, which has been on the humanitarian frontlines consistently, has joined hands with local NGOs to render vital assistance to flood-affected families in the Amritsar, Patiala, Fazilka, and Firozpur districts. It will assist 1,500 families with their primary needs, such as health, hygiene, food, and shelter.

Relief kits distributed contain medicines, hygiene items, mosquito nets, tarpaulin sheets, folding beds, cotton mattresses, and food stuffs—a complete kit aimed at providing instant relief and dignity to families who have been displaced.

VOA is one of the partners, a prestigious Amritsar-based NGO. “We have been working constantly since the attacks,” said Seenu Arora, founding member of VOA,

“They (Meer Foundation) are pleased to contribute in the project put up by VOA to provide household items like beds, mattresses, gas stoves, fans, water purifiers, etc., to approximately 500 flood-affected and collectively adopted homes.”

What is Meer Foundation of Shah Rukh Khan?

Established in 2003 in honor of SRK’s deceased father, Meer Taj Mohammed Khan, the Meer Foundation has been actively promoting women’s empowerment and rehabilitation causes for years. From assisting acid attack victims to aiding in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, the foundation has a proven history of grassroots influence.

It functions with the aim of bringing change at the community level, but especially in the lives of underprivileged women and children.

Salman Khan’s Being Human Dispatches Boats for Rescues

Close on their heels is Salman Khan’s Being Human Foundation. Five of its rescue boats have been deployed to affected areas. Three of the boats are being used for rescue operations and delivering food, while two were officially handed over at the Ferozepur border.

Punjab Tourism Chairman Deepak Bali asserted that Salman’s foundation has more in the pipeline:

“Being Human also plans to take up flood-affected villages in the vicinity of Husainiwala once the crisis subsides.”

Bollywood Celebrities donate by example

With SRK and Salman Khan both leading the way during this time of crisis, their initiatives serve as a testament to the importance that celebrities and their networks can exert in disaster relief and rebuilding communities.
