Ranveer Singh has found himself at the centre of a controversy after his exit from Don 3, a project that was being developed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment. Reports suggest the actor stepped away from the film shortly before production was scheduled to begin, leading to significant financial losses for the makers. Following the dispute, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non cooperation directive against him after the producers reportedly approached industry bodies over the matter.
While Ranveer has chosen not to comment publicly, several voices from the film industry have come out in his support. Singer Mika Singh, who himself faced a FWICE ban in 2019 after performing at a wedding in Pakistan, said he considers Ranveer a humble and genuine person and expressed his intention to speak with the federation about the issue. Mika’s own ban was later revoked after discussions with FWICE.
According to reports, Ranveer and the makers of Don 3 parted ways after creative differences emerged following the release of Dhurandhar in 2025. The actor reportedly decided to move ahead with another project, Pralay, while the producers sought compensation for losses they claimed resulted from his departure. Ranveer’s team later issued a statement saying he holds deep respect for the film community and everyone associated with the Don franchise. The statement added that he had deliberately remained silent because he believes professional matters should be handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect. His team also said he has no interest in responding to speculation and remains focused on his work and future commitments while wishing the franchise continued success.
The controversy has also drawn reactions from outside the film industry. Author and columnist Shobhaa De criticised FWICE’s involvement, questioning what she described as a growing culture of power and control. In a video shared on Instagram, she compared the situation to the ongoing Delhi Gymkhana Club dispute and referred to Ranveer as the “Delhi Gymkhana of Bollywood.” De argued that the issue should have remained a matter between Ranveer, Excel Entertainment and Farhan Akhtar, and suggested that legal channels could have been used instead of involving industry bodies. She also warned that the non cooperation directive could negatively affect technicians and other workers whose livelihoods depend on projects involving the actor. De praised Ranveer for maintaining his silence throughout the controversy, saying he appeared to be handling the situation with restraint while allowing events to unfold without public confrontation. Meanwhile, Excel Entertainment has not issued a public response to FWICE’s decision.
