The horror film Obsession continued its impressive performance at the Indian box office on Monday, collecting approximately Rs. 2.30 crore. What makes this figure notable is that it is around 40 to 45 per cent higher than the film’s opening day collection. In most cases, films see a decline after their opening day, making this growth an unusual and encouraging sign for the movie’s theatrical run.
After four days in theatres, Obsession has accumulated approximately Rs. 11.50 crore in India, which is roughly equivalent to USD 1.20 million. Based on its current trend, the film is expected to collect more than Rs. 18 crore during its first week.
The movie is also expected to benefit from the discount ticket pricing available on Tuesday. Advance bookings for the day are already considerably stronger than they were on Monday, suggesting that collections could increase further. Since the film is maintaining solid numbers during weekdays, industry observers believe that its second weekend could remain strong and may even perform better than its opening weekend.
Earlier projections suggested that a lifetime collection of around Rs. 30 crore would be a good result for the film. However, current trends indicate that it could reach close to that figure by the end of its second weekend. If that happens, the film may end up collecting significantly more than initial expectations.
Obsession has already delivered an outstanding performance in North America, where it has been attracting audiences for three weeks. The film opened with USD 17 million during its first weekend and is now expected to cross USD 200 million during its full theatrical run.
One of the most surprising aspects of the film’s success is its reported production cost. According to reports, Obsession was made for approximately USD 750K. Compared to its current worldwide earnings, the film has already generated returns far beyond its reported budget.
The film’s success also adds to a strong year for Hollywood releases in India. Several international films have performed well at the Indian box office in 2026, and industry analysts believe the momentum could continue. Major upcoming releases such as Avengers: Doomsday, The Odyssey, and Spider Man: Brand New Day are still awaiting release. If these films perform strongly, 2026 could become one of the most successful years ever for Hollywood films in the Indian market.
For now, Obsession remains one of the year’s biggest box office surprises, showing strong audience interest both internationally and in India.
