Not Dhurandhar! Prithviraj Sukumaran Names Ranveer Singh’s Greatest Performance

Prithviraj Sukumaran says Ranveer Singh's role in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is his best performance, even better than Dhurandhar.

Ranveer Singh has delivered many memorable performances during his career, and his recent success with the Dhurandhar films has once again proved his talent as an actor. While many fans and critics have praised his action packed role in the franchise, Malayalam actor and filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran believes Ranveer’s finest performance came much earlier. According to him, Ranveer’s portrayal of Rocky Randhawa in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani remains his best performance till date. Speaking in a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Prithviraj said that although he admired Ranveer’s work in Dhurandhar, it was Rocky Randhawa that truly impressed him because of how difficult the character was to play.

Prithviraj said he had even shared the same opinion with filmmaker Karan Johar. He explained that playing Rocky Randhawa was not as easy as it looked on screen. The character had to be loud, funny, emotional, charming and lovable at the same time without becoming over the top. According to Prithviraj, Ranveer handled every part of the role perfectly and brought the character to life with great confidence. He said that while Dhurandhar showcased Ranveer’s intensity as an action hero, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani highlighted his range as a performer in a much stronger way.

Directed by Karan Johar, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani tells the story of two people from completely different backgrounds who fall in love. Ranveer plays Rocky Randhawa, a fun loving Punjabi man from a rich but traditional family, while Alia Bhatt plays Rani Chatterjee, an independent Bengali journalist with modern values. Their love story begins while trying to reunite Rocky’s grandfather, played by Dharmendra, with his former love, played by Shabana Azmi, who is also Rani’s grandmother. To understand each other’s lives better, Rocky and Rani decide to live with each other’s families for three months. During this time, Rani faces the conservative mindset in Rocky’s home, while Rocky learns important lessons about equality, family values and relationships by living with Rani’s open minded family. The film explores love, acceptance and personal growth while also addressing social issues such as gender roles and family expectations.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj Sukumaran has a busy schedule with several exciting projects lined up. He will next be seen in the thriller I, Nobody, directed by Nissam Basheer, followed by the action drama Khalifa. He is also working on a horror film with director Rahul Sadasivan. Apart from these, Prithviraj is part of the highly anticipated pan Indian film Varanasi, directed by SS Rajamouli. The epic drama stars Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra alongside him and is expected to release in April 2027.
