Awarapan 2 has maintained a strong hold at the Indian box office on its first Monday. The Emraan Hashmi starrer collected around Rs. 9 crore nett on Day 4, marking a drop of about 60 per cent from its opening day. Considering the film had benefited from a holiday eve boost on its first day, the Monday performance is being seen as a healthy hold.
With this collection, Awarapan 2 has taken its four day total to around Rs. 90.50 crore nett. The film could see another increase in collections today because of discount day, which may help it cross the Rs. 100 crore nett mark.
The film is currently expected to finish its first week at around Rs. 115 crore nett, possibly falling short by Rs. 1 crore or Rs. 2 crore. Awarapan 2 has already been classified as a SUPER HIT and its Monday performance has improved its chances of becoming a BLOCKBUSTER.
However, the film still needs to maintain its strong performance during the second week. Romantic dramas with intense stories and music often see stronger collections in the early days, making a long theatrical run more difficult. The upcoming schedule could also affect its business.
The next weekend does not have major competition, which gives Awarapan 2 an opportunity to continue attracting audiences. However, Toxic is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday next week and could reduce the film’s screen count and collections. Its performance against the new release will be important in deciding whether it can reach blockbuster status.
Awarapan 2 Day Wise Box Office Collections
Day Nett Collection
Friday Rs. 22.50 cr.
Saturday Rs. 33.00 cr.
Sunday Rs. 26.00 cr.
Monday Rs. 9.00 cr.
Total Rs. 90.50 cr.
Awarapan 2 is a sequel to the 2007 film Awarapan, which was a DISASTER when it originally released but later developed a strong cult following.
The sequel’s success is notable because it follows a renewed interest in intense romantic stories and music. Emraan Hashmi was closely associated with this genre during the 2000s and early 2010s. At the peak of his career, he delivered films such as Murder 2, Raaz 3, Jannat 2 and Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai.
The success of Awarapan 2 is therefore a major turnaround for a franchise that began with a film that failed at the box office but later gained a loyal audience.
