Krishnavataram Part 1: Hridayam showed some improvement at the Indian box office on its first Tuesday. The film collected Rs. 1.55 crore, which was around 30 per cent higher than its opening day collection. The increase largely came because of discounted movie ticket prices offered on Tuesday across many cinemas.
With this, the 5 day total collection of the mythological fantasy drama has reached Rs. 9.40 crore, including paid preview shows. The film is now expected to end its first week with collections close to Rs. 11 crore.
While these numbers are considered decent for the film’s cast and release scale, they may not be enough considering the film’s reportedly high budget. The movie will need a much stronger performance over the coming days and weeks if it wants to emerge successful at the box office.
There have been examples of mythological films showing unexpected growth after release. Last year, Mahavatar Narsimha opened with just Rs. 1.25 crore on its first day but later saw major growth during the weekend. The animated film eventually went on to collect around Rs. 170 crore nett in Hindi.
Another film, Laalo: Krishna Sada Sahayate, also saw slow collections initially before gaining strong momentum later in its theatrical run. Because of such examples, trade experts believe that films based on mythology can sometimes grow slowly through audience word of mouth.
Unlike Mahavatar Narsimha, Krishnavataram Part 1: Hridayam is a live action film based on the life and stories connected to Lord Krishna. However, its weekend growth has not been as strong so far.
For now, the focus will remain on how the film performs during the weekdays and whether it can maintain collections closer to its Saturday numbers before entering the second week.
The box office collections for Krishnavataram Part 1: Hridayam are as follows:
Previews: Rs. 0.40 crore
Friday: Rs. 1.05 crore
Saturday: Rs. 2.15 crore
Sunday: Rs. 3.20 crore
Monday: Rs. 1.05 crore
Tuesday: Rs. 1.55 crore (est.)
Total: Rs. 9.40 crore
