Karan Johar: I have lost the innocence of making love stories

They say change is the only constant thing and it perfectly suits our Bollywood celebs. Filmmaker Karan Johar, who is pretty known for charming us with his candy floss romantic outings ever since he stepped in the industry, surprising as it may sound, now finds it very difficult to pen love stories. Karan, who has co-produced yet another rom-com HASEE TOH PHASEE starring Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra, confessed that he has the lost innocence of making love stories with the changing times.

Karan Johar said at the trailer launch of HASEE TOH PHASEE ”I actually find it very difficult to write love stories anymore. I think I have lost that innocence which I had when I wrote KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI or KAL HO NAA HO. I feel the love scenes that I write are synthetic and very artificial.”

Now-a-days, organic and honest love stories is what appeals to Karan. ”These days, whenever I read something truly organic and honest in nature love stories, it always moves me to make it. When I read Vinil Mathew’s script, which is written by Harshavardhan Kulkarni, I was completely bowled over by the quirkiness and the moving quality that the screenplay had. It was quirky, sort of off-the-cuff yet it moved me towards the end.”

Since HASEE TOH PHASEE is jointly produced by Phantom Films spearheaded by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramadtya Motwane, Vikas Behl & Madhu Mantena, and Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Karan is highly elated with this collaboration. He says, ”It’s a heady combo. Phantom Films’ quirkiness and Dharma’s emotions make a grand collaboration and no better script could justify this combination of producers better than HASEE TOH PHASEE…”

HASEE TOH PHASEE is set to hit the screens on February 7, 2014.
