Karan Johar has been teasing a sequel to the 2022 family comedy-drama Jug Jugg Jeeyo since its release, but until now, no concrete plans were in place. PeepingMoon.com can now confirm that Jug Jugg Jeeyo 2 is officially happening, though it might come with a different title and serve as more of a spiritual sequel.

Dharma Productions is expanding this beloved family entertainer into a franchise, capitalizing on the trend of successful franchise films in theaters. Director Raj Mehta has started writing the sequel with a team of writers, aiming to begin production later this year or in early 2025. The new installment will feature a fresh storyline set in a similar familial context, much like Dharma’s previous franchise films such as the Dulhania series, Student of the Year, and Dhadak, which have all followed distinct narratives in their sequels.

Jug Jugg Jeeyo originally starred Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Neetu Kapoor, portraying two generations of couples on the verge of divorce. While no cast has been confirmed for the sequel, Varun Dhawan is expected to return. There are also rumors that Tiger Shroff might join the cast, but this has not been confirmed. Raj Mehta had initially planned an action movie with Varun and Tiger, but budget constraints halted that project, leading the director to shift focus to the Jug Jugg Jeeyo sequel.

Mehta and his team are currently working on a script that aims to match the first film’s balance of drama, humor, and emotions to create another heartwarming family entertainer.

Dharma Productions has over a dozen films in various stages of production. Completed projects include Alia Bhatt’s Jigra, Vicky Kaushal and Triptii Dimri’s Bad Newz, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii’s Dhadak 2, and Akshay Kumar and Ananya Panday’s Shankara. Meanwhile, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s spy comedy and Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari are currently in production. Upcoming projects slated for 2025 include Karan Johar’s next directorial, Salman Khan’s The Bull, and Collin D’Cunha’s Indian adaptation of the French comedy The Intouchables.
