Sony LIV has announced a new animated original series titled The Legend Of Karna, inspired by one of the most important characters from the Mahabharata. The series has been created by Sharad Devarajan and Jeevan J. Kang under their production company Graphic India. It is scheduled to premiere on July 31.
The series tells the story of Karna, one of the most respected and tragic warriors in the Mahabharata. According to the epic, Karna was born to Kunti and the Sun God Surya, but he was raised in the home of a charioteer. Even though he came from a humble background, Karna possessed extraordinary skill in archery, making him one of the greatest warriors of his time.
As the story unfolds, Karna enters a grand tournament that is usually reserved only for kings and princes. His decision changes the future of an empire and begins a journey filled with challenges, difficult choices and constant struggles against social prejudice.
The official synopsis says, “Crowned king by the ambitious prince Duryodhana but rejected by a court that judges him by his perceived birth, Karna rises from the dust of a village workshop to the royal halls of Hastinapura. His journey is one of exceptional talent, unwavering loyalty and an enduring struggle against a world governed by lineage. As politics, prophecy and hidden truths converge, Karna must confront the conflict between the destiny imposed upon him and the legacy he seeks to create.”
The series aims to present Karna’s life in a simple and engaging way while staying rooted in the events of the Mahabharata. It explores his courage, loyalty, personal sacrifices and the challenges he faced because of his birth, despite his exceptional abilities.
The Legend Of Karna expands Sony LIV’s growing collection of original animated content. The streaming platform, which is owned by Sony Pictures Networks India, is already known for popular original series such as Rocket Boys, Scam, and Freedom At Midnight. In animation, it has also introduced shows including Jiyo Gopuda and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.
With its focus on one of the Mahabharata’s most memorable characters, The Legend Of Karna offers viewers a fresh animated retelling of an epic story. The series explores themes of talent, loyalty, identity and destiny while following the journey of a warrior whose life continues to inspire generations.
