Kishore Namit Kapoor, Roshan Taneja, Anupam Kher you have all heard about these names influential in grooming the superstars of Bollywood since decades, Atul Mathur is that silent invisible sugar in sweet milking of today’s young heartthrob entertainers like Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor.
This Malad based acting guru has always kept a low profile and recently the name of this middle aged acting instructor came into limelight when Arjun Kapoor whose highly awaited HALF GIRFREIND has kick started its promotions remembered his teacher and was quoted saying that “Atul has played a very important part of his growth as an actor.”
We got in touch with Atul and found something interesting about Arjun’s buddy Varun Dhawan who is also the proud student of Atul.
Atul says, acting is in blood of Varun Dhawan and he is born natural, the traces of Govinda and Salman are developed automatically in his genes as being the son of David Dhawan, he has grown up watching his idols – Salman and Govinda. But the things that make Varun different are his versatility and eagerness to do a particular scene in different manner. His range is outstanding and he has proven with an entertaining mass appealing performance in MAIN TERA HERO and the intense man burning with resentment for ages in BADLAPUR, he can be over the top at will and cunningly cool and restrained by choice.”
Varun who is geared up for the highly awaited remake of Salman Khan’s 1997 blockbuster JUDWAA – JUDWAA 2 to be helmed by his father David Dhawan owes his natural spontaneity to Atul who says that he has just made Varun familiar with his naturalness and made him aware of his brilliant comic timings.
Varun has acknowledged the contribution and has been quoted saying, “Atul understands the mind of an actor. I had the good fortune to train with him and he helped me shed my inhibitions and become one with my emotions.'
Due to Varun’s busy and tight schedules, Atul and Varun don’t meet often but they are always connected on phone and whenever Atul sends his feedback on Varun’s work, a grateful acknowledgment to the teacher by his pupil comes with respect informs Atul.
Atul Mathur is associated with renowned theatre groups for more than 20 years and his training primarily focuses on actor’s Hindi diction and developing their confidence. Atul is glad to see the growth of his students on screen and apart from the pleasure and satisfaction that teaching brings to Atul, it’s the overwhelming experience to hear the words of praise, remembrance and thanks from his high profile students like Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor.
