The highly anticipated documentary series Angry Young Men is set to delve into the iconic partnership of the legendary writer-lyricist duo Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, who revolutionized Hindi cinema with their storytelling. The series, releasing on August 20, will feature testimonials and insights from some of Bollywood’s biggest names, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Salman Khan, and Farhan Akhtar, among others.

The trailer, released by Prime Video, offers a glimpse into the timeless legacy of Salim-Javed, with Bollywood celebrities reflecting on the duo’s unparalleled impact on the industry. Salman Khan opens the video, expressing his nervousness, while Farhan Akhtar reflects on his personal connection to the films his father, Javed Akhtar, wrote. The trailer also revisits Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic line from Deewar, “Main aaj bhi feke hue paise nahi uthata,” highlighting the powerful dialogues that have become a part of Indian cinematic history.

Zoya Akhtar emphasizes the rarity of Salim-Javed’s success, noting that out of the 24 films they wrote together, 22 were blockbusters a feat that remains unmatched. Salim Khan humorously suggests that Hollywood might call him after watching the series, while Aamir Khan questions if there is any writer today whose name alone can draw audiences like Salim-Javed did.

The series is directed by Namrata Rao, an acclaimed editor known for her work on films like Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Ishqiya, Band Baaja Baaraat, and Kahaani. Angry Young Men is a joint production by Salman Khan Films, Excel Entertainment, and Tiger Baby Films, bringing together the creative forces of Salman Khan, Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti.

Angry Young Men promises to be a compelling exploration of the duo behind some of Bollywood’s most iconic films, including Zanjeer, Sholay, and Deewar, and their enduring influence on Indian cinema.
