Comedian Samay Raina has once again found himself at the centre of online controversy after an old clip from a 2024 episode of India’s Got Latent resurfaced on social media. The video began circulating just days after the launch of the show’s second season and quickly attracted strong reactions from viewers. Many social media users criticised the joke, with some saying it crossed the line and was insensitive.
The viral clip shows a female contestant receiving news that her father had suffered a heart attack. As she got up to leave the show because of the emergency, Samay questioned why her boyfriend was not going with her. He then made a sexually suggestive joke, implying that if the boyfriend comforted her during the difficult time, she would reward him with oral sex. The audience present during the recording laughed at the comment, but after the clip resurfaced online, many viewers expressed their disappointment and anger.
Several users on X criticised the joke, calling it inappropriate and disrespectful, especially considering the serious family emergency being discussed. Some questioned how such comments could be considered comedy, while others described the remark as offensive and in poor taste. Many felt the joke should never have been made in that situation.
Some social media users also compared the clip to the recent controversy involving comedian Pranit More’s live show. During that event, an audience member spoke about spending around Rs 370 on biryani during a date and suggested that paying for the meal meant he expected intimacy in return. That incident also sparked widespread criticism, with many accusing the comment of treating relationships like a transaction and ignoring the importance of consent. Because of the similarities, several people online said Samay’s old joke raised similar concerns about respect and boundaries.
This is peak unmaturity in boys these days.

This is not the first time India’s Got Latent has been surrounded by controversy. Earlier this year, the show was removed from YouTube after a separate episode featuring YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia sparked outrage over controversial remarks. The backlash led to multiple police complaints and FIRs against people associated with the episode, including host Samay Raina. As the controversy grew, Samay removed all episodes of the show from YouTube and said he would fully cooperate with the authorities.
Despite the earlier controversy, India’s Got Latent has now returned with its second season. The first episode featured actors Alia Bhatt and Sharvari as guests. However, with this old clip once again making headlines, the show is facing renewed public scrutiny. The latest reactions have also restarted a wider conversation on social media about the limits of comedy, freedom of expression, and the responsibility entertainers have while making jokes about sensitive situations.
