Dax Shepard recently shared details about his relationship with Eric Dane, explaining how their connection changed over time. The two first met during recovery meetings, where their initial interactions were not positive.

Shepard explained that when they first met, there was tension between them. He said, “Eric Dane, I can now say I met in recovery and we hated each other. I hated him!” He described feeling that Dane was behaving like a bully during one meeting, which led to a confrontation. Shepard recalled saying, “Let’s go. Outside. Right now.” The situation nearly turned into a physical fight before others stepped in and stopped it.

Despite this, both continued attending the same meetings. Over time, Shepard said he began to understand Dane better by listening to his personal experiences. He shared that Dane had gone through a difficult childhood. “Over the course of the next two years, I found myself starting to kind of relate to him,” Shepard said. He spoke about Dane’s early life, including the loss of his father, and how it shaped his personality and actions.

Shepard added, “And so that little boy held onto that. And then that little boy grew up without a dad like I grew up without a dad,” explaining how this shared experience helped him connect with Dane. Gradually, their relationship improved as they found common ground.

The turning point came during one of their group discussions. Shepard said, “I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but that’s one of my favorite shares I’ve ever heard.” Soon after, Dane responded in a similar way, saying, “I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but I think I’ve come to fall in love with Dax.” This marked the beginning of their friendship.

From then on, they spent time together outside meetings, discussing personal topics such as growing up without a father and understanding identity. Shepard described developing a strong bond and said he came to appreciate Dane’s struggles and efforts.

He also spoke about Dane’s later years, including his diagnosis with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Shepard noted the strength it took for Dane to face the illness publicly.

Dane, known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, passed away on Feb. 19 at the age of 53. In a statement, his family said, “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS.” They added that he was surrounded by loved ones and remembered for his efforts to raise awareness about the condition.

Shepard’s account reflects how their relationship changed over time, moving from conflict to understanding and friendship.

The Tokyo International Film Festival has appointed Hisamatsu Takeo as its new Festival Director, marking a return to familiar leadership at a time when global film events are increasingly competing for cultural relevance and industry attention. During Hiroyasu’s tenure, the festival underwent notable transformations, including relocating its primary hub from Roppongi to the Hibiya-Yurakucho-Marunouchi-Ginza area. The shift was aimed at increasing accessibility and visibility, and it coincided with measurable growth in audience numbers, revenues, and international participation. Hiroyasu’s contributions were also recognized internationally, with the French government awarding him the Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters.

Takeo now steps back into leadership at a time when Japan is placing increasing importance on its content industry as a key economic driver. His experience across major players such as Warner Bros. Pictures Japan and Shochiku, along with his independent venture My Way Movies, positions him as both an industry insider and a strategic operator.

In his statement, Takeo emphasized the need to strengthen the festival’s dual identity as both a cultural platform and a commercial engine. The goal is not just to showcase films, but to actively contribute to the global positioning of Japanese cinema while attracting international collaborations and investments.

The appointment reflects a broader industry trend where film festivals are no longer just about premieres and red carpets. They are evolving into strategic ecosystems that influence distribution, financing, and global storytelling pipelines. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for the upcoming horror film Insidious Out Of The Further. The movie continues the Insidious franchise and introduces a new storyline while also bringing back a familiar character.

The film will see Lin Shaye return as Elise Rainier, a character who has been an important part of the series. The movie is directed by Jacob Chase and is scheduled to release in theatres in August.

The previous film in the series, Insidious The Red Door, was released in 2023 and was initially expected to be the final part. However, after performing well at the box office, plans for another film moved forward. The Insidious franchise has earned more than $740 million worldwide, which shows its continued popularity among audiences.

The new film focuses on a different family and introduces a new main character. According to the official description, “Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother raising her daughter in the house she grew up in who discovers she can travel into The Further, the purgatorial realm of lost souls at the heart of the Insidious universe. When something evil comes after her, Gemma discovers an ability that changes everything: she doesn’t just enter The Further, she can bring what lives there back to the real world. Once the demons realize her power, our world becomes their playground.”

Amelia Eve plays the lead role of Gemma, while Brandon Perea is also part of the cast. The story focuses on her ability to move between the real world and The Further, which creates new risks as dangerous forces begin to follow her back.

The film is set to release in theatres on August 21.
