For someone like Aditya Dhar, whose name is attached to films like Uri: The Surgical Strike, Article 370, and Dhoom Dham, Baramulla feels like a complete letdown. With a title so loaded with regional and political undertones, you expect a film steeped in the intensity of Kashmir — maybe something that touches on militancy, identity, or belonging. What you get instead is a confused supernatural thriller that neither grips nor moves.

The story follows DSP Ridwaan Sayyed (Manav Kaul), who moves with his wife Gulnaar (Bhasha Sumbli), daughter Noorie (Arista Mehta), and son Ayaan (Rohaan Singh) to a house in Baramulla. Ridwaan has been posted there to investigate a series of child disappearances — cases initially believed to be kidnappings, though there are no ransom calls, no clues, and no communication whatsoever. His attempts to lead the investigation are met with hostility, as locals see him as an “Indian puppet.” But before he can make headway, tragedy strikes closer home – his own daughter vanishes. From this point, the narrative spirals into the supernatural, and what unfolds is a messy blend of mystery, horror, and politics that never truly finds its footing.

The film had all the makings of a gripping thriller — but the writing collapses under its own weight. The tone wobbles, the dialogues feel misplaced, and the pacing is painfully uneven. It’s as if the film wants to be everything at once — a ghost story, a commentary on Kashmir, a meditation on grief — but ends up being none of them.

The biggest disappointment lies in the family dynamic, which should have been the emotional heart of the film. Conversations between the family members are bleak and negligible, but whatever little interaction exists feels off balance — and, frankly, absurd. There’s no warmth, no rhythm, no sense of real connection. You can sense what the film wants to make you feel, but it never earns that emotion.

Visually, Baramulla has a certain charm. The snow-covered landscape, the eerie silences, and the shadowy interiors create a moody, almost gothic texture. But the atmosphere is the only thing that works. The screenplay stretches scenes unnecessarily, the first half moves at a crawl, and by the time the actual unraveling begins, the viewer’s patience has already run out. The background score goes into overdrive, trying desperately to inject intensity into scenes that lack substance.

Even Manav Kaul, with his quiet gravitas, can’t rescue this ship. He does what he can, but his performance feels stranded amid a script that offers no emotional or narrative direction. The supernatural track feels forced, the political commentary is surface-level, and the climax — meant to be shocking — only leaves you wondering why you sat through it all.

Baramulla mistakes atmosphere for storytelling. It looks haunting, but has no heartbeat. There’s potential in setting a supernatural mystery against the backdrop of Kashmir’s conflict, but this film barely scratches the surface. By the end, when the mystery resolves, it doesn’t feel like closure — just exhaustion. The conclusion leaves you not stunned, but annoyed, with a sinking feeling that it’s all been a complete waste of time.

Frankenstein Review: Guillermo del Toro Brings Heart to Horror, But Not Without Flaws

When Guillermo del Toro directs a monster movie, you know you’re not getting a simple horror flick, you’re getting a story about loneliness, guilt, and beauty hidden under horror. Frankenstein (2025), now streaming on Netflix, is exactly that.

The film stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant yet tormented scientist obsessed with conquering death. Jacob Elordi plays the Creature, a tragic figure whose existence sparks both wonder and devastation. The story stays largely faithful to Mary Shelley’s original, Victor creates life from death, only to reject his creation and suffer the fallout of his own god complex. But in true del Toro fashion, the film is less about the science and more about the soul.

The craftsmanship is undeniably breathtaking. Del Toro’s world-building feels alive: the sets, lighting, and creature design are immaculate. The gothic atmosphere is haunting but poetic, especially in the Arctic sequences that frame the story. Every frame looks like a painting drenched in melancholy.

Jacob Elordi’s performance as the Creature is the emotional core of the film. He’s fragile, confused, and heartbreakingly human. His eyes carry the loneliness of a child who never asked to be born. Del Toro doesn’t treat him as a villain but as a victim of creation, a mirror to Victor’s arrogance. Oscar Isaac, too, delivers a nuanced portrayal, oscillating between genius and madness with unsettling ease.

The supporting cast: Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Charles Dance, each bring depth to the corners of this sprawling story, but it’s Del Toro’s signature empathy that keeps the movie afloat. His monsters are never just monsters. They’re metaphors for humanity at its most conflicted.

As visually powerful as it is, Frankenstein sometimes struggles with pacing. The middle act feels stretched, and a few emotional beats don’t hit as hard as they should. The dialogue leans heavy on introspection, which, while beautiful, occasionally slows the narrative down. Viewers expecting horror jumps or adrenaline-fueled tension might find themselves restless.

The film’s ambition is both its greatest strength and its biggest flaw. It aims for poetry but occasionally forgets to keep the pulse steady.

The new filings reveal an email exchange from November 2023, where Jolie’s legal team responded to Pitt’s ongoing lawsuit, which reportedly involves claims for $35 million in damages. In the correspondence, Jolie’s lawyers asserted that the financial burden of producing the requested documents was Pitt’s responsibility, since he initiated the case. “The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation—he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages. As a result, he has to pay for producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages,” the message read.

Jolie’s attorneys also accused Pitt of demanding “ongoing damages” for what he described as harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations, while continuing to withhold information about why he allegedly required Jolie to sign a four-year non-disclosure agreement related to his “personal misconduct.”

The dispute stems from Pitt’s 2022 lawsuit, in which he accused Jolie of violating their prior agreement by selling her 50% stake in the winery without his consent. Pitt has maintained that both parties had a mutual understanding preventing either from selling their interest without the other’s approval. Jolie, however, sold her share to Tenute del Mondo, a company linked to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler, claiming she had the legal right to do so.

The matter intensified when Jolie invoked attorney-client privilege to avoid turning over certain documents that Pitt’s team insists are essential to their case.
