Suriya’s much-anticipated fantasy-action film Kanguva, directed by Siva and co-starring Bobby Deol and Disha Patani, has a new release date. Initially scheduled for release on October 10, the film will now hit theaters on November 14, 2024, coinciding with Children’s Day. The shift in release date was confirmed by the film’s producers, Studio Green, on X (formerly Twitter).
They wrote, “The Battle of Pride and Glory, for the World to Witness. #Kanguva’s mighty reign storms screens from 14-11-24.” The decision was made to avoid clashing with Vettaiyan, the upcoming Rajinikanth-starrer directed by TJ Gnanavel, which is slated for a Dasara release.

While fans are excited about the new release date, some expressed disappointment that the film won’t be released during Diwali, a major festival season for Tamil cinema. However, many are eagerly anticipating the promotional campaign and hope to see more glimpses of the film’s characters and storyline.
Kanguva boasts a stellar cast, including Jagapathi Babu, Natarajan Subramaniam, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, and KS Ravikumar in supporting roles. Initially announced in 2019 but delayed due to the pandemic, the film was revived in 2022, with shooting completed in 2024. The film’s music is composed by Devi Sri Prasad, with Vetri Palanisamy handling cinematography and Nishadh Yusuf serving as the editor.
In Kanguva, Suriya plays dual roles: a warrior tribesman from a historical era and a contemporary man. Although the teaser and trailer primarily focused on the period aspects of the film, fans are eagerly awaiting more details about the plot and the character interactions between Suriya and Bobby Deol.
Suriya, who was last seen in a leading role in Etharkkum Thunindhavan (2022), has since made cameo appearances in films like Vikram, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, and Sarfira. Apart from Kanguva, he is currently working on another film with director Karthik Subbaraj and has also produced Meiyazhagan, starring his brother Karthi and Aravind Swamy.
