The makers of Jumanji: Open World have released the official trailer, giving fans their first look at the final chapter of the popular action comedy franchise. The film reunites Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black, while introducing a fresh twist that changes the world of Jumanji in a big way. Scheduled for a Christmas 2026 release, the film is expected to be one of the biggest holiday releases of the year.
Unlike the previous films, where the main characters entered the magical game, Jumanji: Open World changes the story completely. This time, the dangerous game escapes from its digital world and enters the real world, bringing its creatures and challenges into everyday life. The trailer gives a glimpse of cities turning into battlefields as fantasy creatures spread chaos, forcing the heroes to protect the world from a threat unlike anything they have faced before.
The trailer also features the tagline, “One. Last. Game. The final countdown begins,” making it clear that this adventure is being presented as the final chapter of the reboot series. Along with large scale action, the preview highlights exciting moments, humour and several powerful dialogues that add to the emotional and adventurous tone of the film.
One of the biggest surprises is the return of Dwayne Johnson’s Dr. Smolder Bravestone with a noticeable personality change, including a Spanish accent. The trailer also hints that Kevin Hart and Jack Black’s characters experience unusual glitches as their game avatars adjust to the latest adventure, creating several comic moments.
The film also welcomes back familiar faces including Danny DeVito, Nick Jonas, Marin Hinkle, Bebe Neuwirth, Lamorne Morris and Rhys Darby. Joining the franchise are newcomers Dan Hildebrand and Jack Jewkes. The film is directed by Jake Kasdan, who also directed Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019).
Apart from the excitement surrounding the film itself, Jumanji: Open World is also expected to be part of one of the biggest holiday box office clashes in recent years. The movie is set to compete with Shah Rukh Khan’s King during the Christmas season. Internationally, it is also expected to face strong competition from Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three, making the holiday period one of the busiest release windows of the year.
With its mix of action, comedy, fantasy, powerful dialogues and a completely new storyline, Jumanji: Open World aims to conclude the reboot franchise by taking its biggest adventure beyond the game and into the real world.
