Romy Reiner is taking on a new acting challenge with a leading role in the upcoming short film Getting to That Age. The actor will star opposite Carter Jenkins, Emmy nominated actors Sharon Lawrence and Matt Walsh in the project, which explores family relationships, love, aging and the pressure people often feel to achieve certain milestones in life.
Reiner plays an anxious only child who returns home during the holiday season with an important announcement. She plans to tell her parents that she is engaged, but her happy news quickly takes an unexpected turn when she discovers that her parents are planning to divorce. The situation forces her to deal with two major life changes at the same time.
The short film has been written and directed by Tristen Tarp, a new filmmaker who has also worked as a playwright. Getting to That Age follows Tarp’s earlier short film Bark, which starred Monica Potter, Alfonso Caballero and Jennifer Sherer. With her latest project, Tarp looks at how people deal with changing relationships and society’s expectations about age, success and personal happiness.
Speaking about the film, Tarp said bringing the cast and creative team together was a rewarding experience. She praised Sharon Lawrence for her emotional depth, Carter Jenkins for balancing humor with cynicism, and Reiner and Matt Walsh for bringing a dry sense of humor to their roles. Tarp said the cast helped capture the complicated emotions within the family.
The film has been produced by Marked Atlas Pictures, Jumpsuit Pictures, Frances Komoda and Geneva Willis. Tarp, Beck Bennion, Sami Moughrabie, Charles Mudd, Katherine Mudd and Hailey Bailey serve as executive producers, while Madi Walser and Shalyn Delhaes are associate producers.
Reiner has appeared in several short films, including The Underwater Halloween Movie, Pterry and Whole. She will also appear in the upcoming The Auschwitz Bagel. Her other acting credits include Things Like This, You People, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Voices. She recently appeared alongside her brother Jake Reiner at a Los Angeles Dodgers game, where the siblings threw out the first pitch.
Carter Jenkins is known for projects including Famous in Love, Women of the Movement, Mad Men, The Following and the After films. Matt Walsh has appeared in Veep, The Hangover, Ghostbusters, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Ghosts and The Conners. Sharon Lawrence is known for NYPD Blue, Monk, Rizzoli & Isles, Shameless, Criminal Minds, Dynasty and Walker.
With its relatable family story and experienced cast, Getting to That Age aims to present a simple but emotional look at how life can change when people least expect it.
