The recent news surrounding Han So Hee’s mother, Ms. Shin, has brought attention to the actress’s difficult family history. On September 2, 2024, South Korean media outlet TV Chosun reported that Ms. Shin, identified as the mother of My Name actress Han So Hee, was arrested for operating illegal gambling dens across several South Korean cities, including Ulsan and Wonju. This marks her second arrest, with allegations that she has been involved in running 12 illegal gambling establishments since 2021, using “proxy owners” to manage these operations.
Ms. Shin’s troubled past has already strained her relationship with her daughter. She has previously been involved in multiple fraud cases, including using a bank account under Han So Hee’s name to borrow money without her knowledge when the actress was still a minor. In March 2022, Han So Hee’s agency, 9ato Entertainment, clarified that the actress had no responsibility for her mother’s debts, following a court ruling that absolved Han So Hee of any involvement in her mother’s financial misdeeds.
Despite the ongoing legal issues, Han So Hee has maintained distance from her mother and has rarely been in contact with her since high school. The actress, who was raised by her grandmother, expressed regret for the harm caused by her mother’s actions but emphasized that she had no control over these incidents.
On a more positive note, Han So Hee is set to reprise her role alongside Park Seo Joon in the much-anticipated second season of Gyeongseong Creature, scheduled to release on Netflix on September 27, 2024.
