The Devil Wears Prada 2 Holds Steady At Indian Box Office Despite Big Second Weekend Drop

The Devil Wears Prada 2 continued its run at the Indian box office with decent collections in its second weekend. The film added Rs. 6 crore to its tally during the weekend, including Rs. 2.30 crore on its second Sunday. Despite witnessing a drop of nearly 60 per cent from its opening weekend numbers, the movie has managed to maintain a steady hold in cinemas.

The film has now collected a total of Rs. 27.70 crore gross in India. While the trends could have been stronger in the second week, the movie is still expected to emerge as a successful venture at the box office. However, it is unlikely to achieve the Clean Hit tag based on its current pace. Trade expectations suggest that the film may finish its theatrical run with collections close to Rs. 35 crore gross.

For a Hollywood film belonging to this genre, the performance is considered good in the Indian market, where such films generally cater to a limited audience. The movie has also contributed to a strong phase for Hollywood releases in India. The Hollywood film Michael continued its stable performance at the Indian box office during its third weekend. The film collected Rs. 3.75 crore on its third Sunday, showing a slight jump compared to Saturday. With this, the movie ended its third weekend with a total collection of Rs. 9 crore. The film is now expected to finish its third week with collections in the range of Rs. 13 crore to Rs. 15 crore.

At present, the total gross collection of Michael in India stands at Rs. 60.75 crore. Trade expectations suggest that the film will comfortably cross the Rs. 65 crore mark by the end of the third week. Based on its current trend, the biographical drama on Michael Jackson is expected to complete its full theatrical run with an estimated gross collection of around Rs. 75 crore in India.

Michael has now emerged as a “Clean HIT” at the Indian box office. This also marks the third successful Hollywood release of the year after Project Hail Mary and Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. Interestingly, all three films have achieved success within a short period of around one month.

Another Hollywood release, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is also showing decent performance in India. While the film may not reach HIT status, it is still expected to end its run as a successful venture.

What makes these performances notable is that none of these films belonged to the kind of major franchise or established intellectual property that usually performs strongly in India. The Indian market has traditionally been driven by big Hollywood franchises and familiar brands. From MGR to Vijay: South Indian superstars continue to rule politics



For decades, South Indian cinema has shared a unique and powerful connection with politics. Unlike many other parts of the country, film stars in the South have not just campaigned for political parties but have gone on to become lawmakers, ministers and even chief ministers. From the iconic reigns of MGR and Jayalalithaa in Tamil Nadu to N.T. Rama Rao’s political revolution in Andhra Pradesh, movie stardom has often translated into massive electoral success. Now, with actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam making a stunning impact in the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections, the long-standing relationship between cinema and politics appears stronger than ever. His rise once again highlights how deeply film personalities influence public imagination and political landscapes across South India.

South Indian film stars have long parlayed their screen popularity into political power. Tamil Nadu leads this trend. The state’s biggest movie idol, M. G. Ramachandran (MGR), founded the AIADMK party in the early 1970s and became Chief Minister from 1977 until his death in 1987. His protégé and leading actress J. Jayalalithaa succeeded him, going on to serve an unprecedented six terms as CM. Even MGR’s wife, V. N. Janaki, briefly took over as Tamil Nadu’s chief minister (for about 23 days in 1988) after MGR died.

Other Tamil movie-stars-turned-politicians include Vijayakanth, who started the DMDK party in 2005 and became Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil assembly from 2011–2016. Superstar Kamal Haasan launched his own Makkal Needhi Maiam party in 2018. Actress Khushbu Sundar, once a DMK star, has held offices in both the DMK and Congress before joining the BJP; she is now a BJP national executive member. Actor Sarathkumar started the Samathuva Makkal Katchi party, which he merged into the BJP in 2024. Even the legendary Sivaji Ganesan entered politics: he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 1982 and served until 1986. More recent Tamil political figures include Udhayanidhi Stalin (M.K. Stalin’s son), who was appointed Deputy Chief Minister in 2024.

In the May 2026 state elections Tamil Nadu saw a new film star on the rise. Actor Vijay (“Thalapathy” Vijay) founded a party called Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in 2024. Vijay is now poised to become Chief Minister – the latest star to turn politician in Tamil Nadu’s long tradition of actor-led governments.

Across the Telugu-speaking states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, film personalities have similarly made political headway. N.T. Rama Rao (NTR) was a Telugu movie legend who founded the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1982; he became Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister three times (in the 1980s and 1990s). Decades later, his family remains political royalty, and other movie stars have emerged. Pawan Kalyan – younger brother of actor Chiranjeevi – started the Jana Sena Party in 2014 and, after the 2024 elections, became a Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Chiranjeevi himself founded the Praja Rajyam Party in 2008 and later merged it into Congress; he even served as a Union Minister (Tourism) in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s cabinet from 2012–2014.

Among actresses, Roja (Roja Selvamani) switched to YSR Congress and won a state assembly seat; she was appointed Andhra Pradesh’s minister of tourism and culture in 2022 (serving until 2024). Veteran actress Vijayashanti – known as the “Lady Superstar” – was a Member of Parliament from Medak (Hyderabad area) on behalf of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, during the Telangana statehood movement.

In Karnataka, too, actors have become lawmakers. The late Ambareesh, nicknamed the “Rebel Star” of Kannada cinema, won the Mandya Lok Sabha seat in 1998 and held it through 2009. He even served as a Union Minister of State (Information & Broadcasting) from 2006 to 2008. Actress Divya Spandana (stage name Ramya) won the Mandya by-election in 2013 as a Congress candidate, becoming the first Kannada film actress to enter Parliament. Ten years later, Sumalatha Ambareesh – wife of the late Ambareesh – contested the same Mandya seat in 2019 as an independent with BJP backing, and she defeated Nikhil Kumaraswamy to win the election. More recently, actor Upendra (a Kannada star known for unconventional films) launched the Uttama Prajaakeeya Party (UPP) in 2018 with a platform of “accountability, responsibility and transparency” in governance.

In Kerala, film stars have also entered politics. Malayalam action hero Suresh Gopi joined the BJP in 2016 and was nominated as a Rajya Sabha member later that year, serving through 2022. Comedian Innocent won the Chalakudy Lok Sabha seat in 2014 as a CPI(M) candidate, serving one term in Parliament. And actor Mukesh is currently an MLA in the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the Kollam constituency (he was elected in 2021). 

These examples show that across the South, from Tamil Nadu and Andhra to Karnataka and Kerala, the fan-following of movie stars often translates into real-world votes. Screen heroes like NTR, MGR, Ambareesh and others have literally gone from cinema to the legislature and even to chief ministership. The near-election of actor Vijay as Tamil Nadu’s next Chief Minister would be the latest chapter in this story, confirming that in India’s southern states, movie stardom remains a powerful stepping stone into politics.

Bhooth Bangla Continues Strong Box Office Run As Akshay Kumar Finally Gets A HIT Film

Bhooth Bangla, starring Akshay Kumar and Wamiqa Gabbi, continued its steady run at the Indian box office during its fourth week. The horror comedy collected Rs. 1.40 crore on its fourth Friday, taking its total collection to Rs. 144.40 crore nett in India.

The film is now expected to cross the Rs. 150 crore mark soon. Based on its current pace, trade estimates suggest the movie may finish its theatrical run between Rs. 155 crore and Rs. 160 crore nett at the Indian box office.

Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bangla has benefited from a relatively clear run in theatres this week. The movie has continued to attract audiences even in its fourth week, especially after strong collections during the first two weeks.

The film opened with Rs. 80.50 crore in its first week and added another Rs. 41.50 crore in the second week. In the third week, the movie remained stable and continued collecting decent numbers during weekdays as well as over the weekend.

For Akshay Kumar, the success of Bhooth Bangla comes after a difficult period at the box office following the pandemic. Several of his recent films had underperformed commercially. Last year, some of his releases managed to perform decently, but none were able to emerge as major HIT films. With Bhooth Bangla, the actor has finally delivered a successful theatrical performer again.

Akshay Kumar is also known for releasing multiple films regularly, something that keeps theatres active throughout the year. Compared to some actors who take several years between projects, Akshay and Ajay Devgn continue to maintain a higher number of releases. Industry observers often note that regular releases from major stars help maintain consistent audience interest in cinemas.

Raja Shivaji Nears Rs. 70 Crore Mark As Riteish Deshmukh’s Historical Drama Holds Strong

Raja Shivaji, based on the life of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, continued its run at the Indian box office as the film entered its second week in theatres. Starring Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role, the historical drama has been performing steadily despite some drop in collections during weekdays.

Written and directed by Riteish Deshmukh, the film collected Rs. 3.20 crore on its eighth day, which was the second Friday after release. According to Sacnilk, the movie recorded this collection across 3,882 shows. The day 8 figure was around 20 per cent lower than Thursday’s collection of Rs. 4.00 crore.

After eight days in theatres, the total India net collection of Raja Shivaji has reached Rs. 55.85 crore, while the gross collection stands at Rs. 66.23 crore. Based on the current trend, the film is expected to cross the Rs. 70 crore gross mark over the weekend.

The movie was released in both Hindi and Marathi languages. The Marathi version has contributed a larger share to the total collections so far. On the opening day itself, the Marathi version earned Rs. 8 crore, while the Hindi version collected Rs. 3.35 crore.

The film brings the story and life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to the big screen through a large scale historical setup. The project is considered an important film for Riteish Deshmukh, who not only acted in the lead role but also directed the movie.

Apart from Riteish Deshmukh, the cast includes Vidya Balan, Fardeen Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan and Amole Gupte in important roles. Salman Khan also appears in a small cameo role, which has received attention from audiences.
