The British PM Who Loves Bollywood: Keir Starmer’s Tujhe Dekha To Ye Jana Sanam Moment in Mumbai!

0

In a cultural watershed moment, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made an official visit to Yash Raj Films (YRF) Studios in Mumbai, where he was warmly received by one of India’s most legendary film studios. The visit was on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), Bollywood’s biggest all-time classic film. As Tujhe Dekha To Ye Jana Sanam, the evergreen love song, played softly in the background, the Prime Minister was surrounded by the retro splendor of a movie that has left an eternal impact on the collective psyche of Indians and global viewers.

DDLJ, predominantly shot in London and throughout the UK, is a milestone in the history of cinema, a reflection of the deep cultural affinity between India and the United Kingdom. With the passage of time, the film has bridged the two countries through common narratives and values, nurturing the soft power of cinema.

Emphasizing this extended history, Yash Raj Films has recently announced a new creative partnership with the UK—a three-film production partnership to begin in 2026. The partnership is intended to further anchor the studio in the global arena and deepen the UK-India cultural connection.

In addition, YRF is developing the stage musical Come Fall In Love: The DDLJ Musical, an English version of the original movie. With a theme of love, unity, and merger of cultures, the musical explores an “East meets West” concept, leveraging DDLJ’s rich legacy of diversity and international popularity.

The Prime Minister Starmer’s visit reflects the increasing cooperation between Indian and British creative economies and once again underscores the beneficial role that cinema plays in uniting cultures and facilitating cross-cultural understanding and cooperation.

Lamhe: When India wasn’t ready; Yash Chopra already was.

0

In 1991, when mainstream Hindi cinema was soaked in vengeance dramas, family sagas, and love stories wrapped neatly in moral boundaries, Yash Chopra quietly dropped a film that didn’t fit anywhere – Lamhe. Lamhe was not loud or conventional, and most definitely it wasn’t comfortable. It dared to explore a kind of love that refused to be labelled — or accepted. At its heart, Lamhe was a story about time, memory, and emotional inheritance — but beneath that, it was a statement on how society defines morality and how the human heart refuses to obey it. In that single leap, Yash Chopra placed himself decades ahead of his time — and, perhaps, too far ahead for his audience to follow.

Most filmmakers of that era worked within the framework of idealised romance. Yash Chopra, however, chose to step into the shadows — to show love that’s imperfect, unsettling, and achingly human. Lamhe is about Viren (Anil Kapoor) falling for Pallavi (Sridevi), a woman older than him, embodying a love both pure and unfulfilled. Years later, he meets ‘her’ daughter, Pooja (also played by Sridevi), who mirrors her mother’s charm — and unknowingly rekindles that buried emotion.

It wasn’t an age-gap story. It was a psychological labyrinth — about a man haunted by the past, about desire disguised as devotion, and about love finding its way back through memory. Chopra had tapped into something deeply Freudian, but wrapped it in chiffon and melody — making the taboo look achingly poetic.

Visually, Lamhe was unlike anything Indian audiences had seen in the early ’90s. The sweeping landscapes of Rajasthan contrasted with the cool sophistication of London; the earthy, rooted emotions of Pallavi’s world collided with the free-spirited, Westernized Pooja.

Yash Chopra didn’t just shoot beauty — he designed emotional geography. Every frame carried intent. The transition from golden deserts to grey English skies symbolized time, loss, and rebirth. The costumes, composed in pastels and whites, stripped melodrama of its noise and gave romance a rare minimalism.

And then, there was Sridevi — playing both mother and daughter with such nuance that one could almost feel the generational echo. Her transformation wasn’t just physical; it was tonal. As Pallavi, she was grace and restraint; as Pooja, she was the embodiment of youthful rebellion. Yash Chopra, in his inimitable way, created a cinematic mirror — reflecting love through two faces of the same woman.

When Lamhe released, it met polite applause but commercial rejection. Audiences were uncomfortable — even disturbed — by what they saw as an “immoral” undertone. How could a man fall for the daughter of the woman he once loved! How could a filmmaker as romantic as Yash Chopra tread this forbidden emotional ground?

But that discomfort was precisely the point. Lamhe questioned our definition of love — whether it’s bound by age, relation, or social expectation. It asked if affection, in its purest form, can transcend the rules we create for it.

India, then in the early stages of liberalization, wasn’t ready for that question. The same audiences that celebrated Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge just four years later — a story about winning love over family disapproval — rejected Lamhe for defying it.

Yet, over time, the film found its believers. Critics revisited it. Audiences aged into it. Filmmakers cited it. What was once seen as scandalous became profound. And in that evolution lies the measure of -Yash Chopra’s foresight.

Today, Lamhe is regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most daring romantic dramas. It’s listed among Yash Chopra’s finest works — not because it succeeded, but because it dared. It redefined the language of Hindi film romance from melodrama to introspection.

Modern audiences, now accustomed to layered storytelling and emotionally complex characters, can finally see what Chopra attempted in 1991 — a meditation on unspoken longing, the passage of time, and the morality of emotion. In many ways, Lamhe predicted the cinematic maturity of a future Bollywood that hadn’t yet arrived.

Even in his later works — Veer-Zaara, Jab Tak Hai Jaan — one could sense Chopra’s continued fascination with love that defies simplicity. But it was Lamhe where he took his boldest leap. It was art without apology.

Three decades later, Lamhe stands vindicated. It wasn’t a failure — it was an experiment waiting for its audience to mature. It was a film about feelings we don’t speak of, attractions we don’t admit, and the time it takes for society to grow into understanding them.

Yash Chopra didn’t just make a film about love; he made one about evolution — both emotional and cultural. And maybe that’s why Lamhe endures. It reminds us that some visions aren’t meant for the present — they’re designed for the future.

In 1991, India wasn’t ready for Lamhe. But Yash Chopra already was.

The Numbers Are In: Kantara Chapter 1’s First Week Box Office Collection Is a Record-Breaker!

0

Kantara Chapter 1, the long-awaited prequel of the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, has swept the Indian box office off its feet. Released on October 2, the Rishab Shetty-frontend movie not only met the huge expectations but also created a new benchmark for mythological dramas in Indian cinema. With its compelling story-telling, grounded cultural subject matter, and stunning visuals, the film has tapped into a deep emotional resonance with audiences across languages.

Directed by Rishab Shetty himself, Kantara Chapter 1 explores the history of the divine traditions and ancestral wars seen in the first movie. While most sequels and prequels disappoint, this mythological saga has only grown the world and deepened the story, and it is definitely a film to watch on the big screen.

As per trade reports on sacnilk.com, the movie has earned an astounding Rs 316 crore in only 7 days. The movie kicked off with a robust Rs 61.85 crore on Thursday, followed by Rs 45.4 crore on Friday. During the weekend, the momentum picked up even further, with Rs 55 crore on Saturday and Rs 63 crore on Sunday. Although the weekday collections dropped marginally, the film still registered Rs 31.5 crore on Monday, Rs 34.25 crore on Tuesday, and Rs 25 crore on Wednesday.

Supported by producers Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda on the Hombale Films platform, Kantara Chapter 1 features Gulshan Devaiah, Rukmini Vasanth, and Jayaram in central roles alongside Shetty. The film’s detailed dive into regional mythology, particularly the strong depiction of Daiva Guliga, has been largely appreciated. With high-quality VFX, a hauntingly gorgeous soundtrack, and an emotionally deep story, the film has further raised the bar for Kannada cinema.

Speaking on the occasion of the recent success celebration for the film, Rishab Shetty had this to say, “From the last part to this one, we visually expanded the film. I’ve always said — the more regional we go, the more global we become, and that’s exactly what happened.”

Looking back at his spirited performance, he went on to say, “This film and character were my dream, which my team turned into theirs, and now it’s the public’s dream. My energy has been transferred to the public.”

As Kantara Chapter 1 makes its way towards crossing the original’s Rs 400 crore benchmark, it’s obvious that Shetty’s vision is rewriting regional cinema’s position on the international map.

A prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, this chapter delves deeper into mythological origins, centuries ahead of the original. Directed by Rishab Shetty, the movie is in the backdrop of the ancient Kadamba dynasty reign and deals with power, godliness, and man’s relationship with nature.

Jayaram has the important role of the King of Bangra—a figure with madness and ambition, determined to conquer whatever lies before him. His madness is triggered when he comes across a sacred pouch of spices. But greed gets the better of him, and he ventures into a sacred forest, where the protecting spirits Panjurli and Guliga—also the ganas of Eeshwara—arise and slay him.

Years later, his son Rajashekara emerges as a just and humane king. What’s in a Name? SSMB29’s Title Could Change the Game for Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu

0

After rewriting Indian box office history with Baahubali and RRR, visionary director SS Rajamouli is now setting the stage for his most ambitious venture yet — a globe-spanning cinematic epic with superstar Mahesh Babu, tentatively titled SSMB29. Known for delivering visual spectacles, Rajamouli’s upcoming project is being hailed as a pan-world film, with plans for simultaneous release in over 120 countries.

Rajamouli has become a brand unto himself — his name alone guarantees packed theatres. His past work didn’t just elevate Telugu cinema to national prominence but pushed it onto the global stage. With SSMB29, he’s aiming to go beyond. Industry insiders suggest that the film is being envisioned on a scale comparable to Hollywood franchises like Avatar and Avengers, with international legends like James Cameron and Steven Spielberg already acknowledging Rajamouli’s craft post-RRR.

The film has created huge buzz since word of Rajamouli-Mahesh Babu collaboration started doing the rounds. Touted as a “globe-trotting adventure,” the movie has supposedly got a protagonist on a mythological journey with strong spiritual connotations. Adding to the frenzy, a leaked set video recently went viral and left the fans hungry to interpret what sorcery the director has been brewing this time.

On the birthday of Mahesh Babu, a pre-look poster was released, and fans went into overdrive. The poster had the actor with blood dripping from his neck, wearing a rudraksha mala with some fierce Hindu symbols like the Nandi and Trishula – heavily suggesting a Shaivism and Indian mythos-based storyline. Some speculate the story may be linked to the Ramayana and a quest for ancient powerful artefacts.

Joining the rumors, reports say the working title of the movie is Varanasi, and a mammoth Rs 50-crore set to mimic the holy city has been constructed. While this indicates that major portions of the story take place in Varanasi, some fans opine the title does not have the élan required of a Rajamouli blockbuster. Reactions on social media have been conflicting, with most asking the makers to opt for a more compelling title.

“Har Ladke Ke Saath Uska Affair Rehta Hai”: Shweta Tiwari’s Scathing Remark on Palak Tiwari’s Dating Life

0

Palak Tiwari and Ibrahim Ali Khan have been rumorously dating for years, with the internet often making assumptions about the state of their relationship. Even though both insist they are just friends, the internet never fails to go abuzz whenever they are seen together. Palak’s mother, TV actress Shweta Tiwari, recently spoke out about the speculation, expressing her annoyance at all the rumors surrounding her daughter.

During an open interview with Galatta India, Shweta spoke of how such rumors can affect a young girl growing up under fame. “Toh mujhe dar lagta hai ki kahi aisa na hoh ki abhi bachi hai na. Kabhi koi cheez galat likhe. Log kitne brutally likhte hai. Har second ladke ke saath uska affair rehta hai,” she claimed. Explaining her concern, Shweta further stated that she keeps thinking about how long Palak can hold up under such scrutiny and hopes it does not affect her psychologically.

Shweta also gave a peek into their private discussions, claiming Palak jokes about the rumors. “She has never said but tells me, ‘Oh mom, you know now I’m dating this guy.’ I’m like, huh? ‘I’m dating him. Don’t know when. Must ask them!'” Shweta revealed. While Palak jokes about it, Shweta confessed that when someone jokes about such stuff, it is generally because it annoys them on some level.

The dating rumors between Ibrahim and Palak initially started in 2022 after the two were seen exiting a restaurant. Shortly thereafter, they were seen at a concert in Mumbai, adding to the speculations that they were not just friends. Paparazzi images and fan speculations further fanned the flames, with most believing that there was a hidden relationship in the making.

Though, Palak explained the situation in an earlier interview with Siddharth Kannan too, where she mentioned, “We were just out, and we got papped. It ends there.” She further discussed that they were amongst a group of people and that the pictures forged a wrong narrative. “It was the narrative that people liked the most, but that’s it. We are nice friends. He is a very sweet guy. That’s all there is to it.”

Isha Malviya Calls Out Rakhi Sawant for Hypocrisy Over Abhishek Kumar Romance

0

The recent episode of COLORS’ Dhamaal With Pati Patni Aur Panga became a sidesplitting rollercoaster ride of love and laughter due to the theatrical entry of none other than Rakhi Sawant. Famous for her blunt personality and over-the-top theatricality, Rakhi lit the stage literally and otherwise when she burst into the wedding ceremony of Avika Gor and Milind Chandwani and made Abhishek Kumar’s search for the “perfect patni” a full-fledged comedy circus.

The instant Rakhi set eyes on Abhishek, she exclaimed with complete Bollywood-flavored drama, “Mujhe pati mil gaya hai!” The crowd burst into laughter, and the normally self-assured Abhishek was flustered to show. In a half-hearted move to play down the moment, he uncomfortably asserted he was “just kidding” about romance, but the harm or entertainment was already inflicted.

Taking things a notch higher, Rakhi performed the ultimate filmi move by saying “Qubool hai” three times. The dramatic proposal sent Abhishek running for cover as Rakhi, unfazed and fabulous, chased him onto the dance floor. What followed was pure entertainment gold: Rakhi’s over-the-top dance moves and theatrical possessiveness had Abhishek literally dodging her like a pro, while the crowd cheered in delight.

Step in comedian Munawar Faruqui, who did not miss the golden chance for humor and requested Abhishek to recite a shaayri for his “beloved Rakhi.” Abhishek’s quick witted response, “Doctor ne mana kiya hai!” left the house in splits, with laughter not only from the crowd but also from his former girlfriend Isha Malviya.

Throughout the episode, Abhishek tried everything from clever comebacks to outright escaping the scene but Rakhi’s larger-than-life energy kept him on his toes. Her fearless antics and impeccable comic timing made her the star of the episode, with social media instantly buzzing with clips and memes.

While it remains to be seen whether Abhishek will ever “accept” Rakhi’s dramatic affection, one thing is certain: the show has reached a new level of chaos and comedy. Rakhi Sawant’s entry has not only shaken things up but has also left fans eagerly waiting for the next episode to see what she’ll do next.
