Lalit Modi Finally Breaks Silence On Sushmita Sen ‘Gold Digger’ Claims

0

Nearly four years after their relationship became a major topic of discussion online, Lalit Modi has spoken publicly about the criticism directed at Sushmita Sen following their dating announcement in July 2022. The businessman and former IPL chairman had surprised many people when he shared holiday pictures with Sushmita Sen on social media and revealed that they were in a relationship. The photos quickly spread across the internet and sparked widespread discussion. While many people reacted with curiosity, others questioned the relationship and accused Sushmita of being interested in Modi because of his wealth and public status.

Now, speaking in a conversation with Humans of Bombay, Lalit Modi has strongly rejected those claims. He described Sushmita as one of the most independent and successful women he has known and said the public perception of their relationship was inaccurate.

Talking about Sushmita’s financial success, Lalit said, “Sushmita, please understand, is a very beautiful and a very well-to-do lady. I don’t know if anybody knows this, but she has more diamonds than anybody I know on the planet. And she has earned it herself, and she has diamond stores. So she’s a very wealthy lady. She has done it all on her own. There wasn’t a time I went out with Sushmita that I had to pay for anything. She paid for everything. I was like a kept boyfriend. So Sushmita is a woman that is very proud, and I’m going to say this very happily, and she is the remarkable lady and the self-made lady, self-made lady, and she will never accept anything from anybody.”

Lalit Modi also said that the criticism aimed at Sushmita was unfair from the beginning. According to him, the assumption that she was motivated by money did not match reality. He even joked that if anyone benefited from the relationship, it was him.

He said, “So when somebody says she’s a gold digger, no, Lalit was a diamond digger. It wasn’t she was a gold digger. I was hoping that I was a diamond digger as far as she was concerned, because she was truly a diamond. And as far as I’m concerned, she could have anybody on the planet she wanted. It was never about money. It was never about anything else. And she is extremely well-to-do. I mean, she can buy what she wants and do what she wants and probably buy anybody she wants on the planet, without a doubt.”

When Lalit Modi first announced the relationship in 2022, he referred to Sushmita as his “better half,” which led to speculation that the two had married. He later clarified that they were dating and not married. Despite that clarification, the announcement continued to generate intense discussion online, making it one of the most talked about celebrity relationships of that year.

1947: Brexit India Documentary explores economic side of partition

0

Eclectic Films and Dr. Swarnjit Singh recently hosted an exclusive screening of their upcoming documentary 1947: Brexit India in New Delhi. The event was attended by Member of Parliament and author Dr. Shashi Tharoor, who joined as the chief guest, along with diplomats, historians, media professionals, and other distinguished guests.

Directed by Sanjivan Lal, written by veteran screenwriter Shama Zaidi, and narrated by actor Boman Irani, the documentary presents a different perspective on India’s Partition and British rule. Instead of focusing solely on political events, the film examines the economic factors behind Britain’s exit from India. It explores how a financially weakened Britain, burdened after World War II and facing pressure linked to American loans, accelerated the Partition process, transferring significant human and logistical challenges to the newly formed nations of India and Pakistan.

The documentary features insights from several noted experts and scholars, including Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Boman Irani, historian William Dalrymple, security expert Commodore Uday Bhaskar, and political scientist Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed.

Among those present at the screening were H.E. Mr. M. Riaz Hamidullah, H.E. Ambassador Maliki, H.E. Mahishini Colonne, Naseer Abdullah, and other prominent guests. Many attendees described the film as a thought-provoking work that offers a fresh perspective on the events of 1947 by highlighting an economic dimension that is often overlooked in mainstream historical narratives.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Shashi Tharoor said, “History is never merely about the past; it continues to shape the present. Delighted to have contributed to this thoughtful exploration of India’s long encounter with British rule.”

He also noted that every member of Gen Z and Gen Alpha should watch the documentary to gain a deeper understanding of British rule and India’s journey to independence.

Producer and concept creator Dr. Swarnjit Singh said, “To see a project that took over a decade of archival research resonate so deeply with this room of brilliant minds is incredibly validating. We didn’t set out to make a conventional historical film. We wanted to audit the Empire. The British entered as merchants, operated through a mafia-style grip on our resources, and cut a hasty deal the moment the balance sheet turned red. This screening proves that audiences are hungry for the economic truths behind 1947.”

Director Sanjivan Lal spoke about the challenge of transforming years of research into an engaging documentary. He said, “Framing ten years of dense research data into a gripping narrative was a massive creative challenge. Our goal was to let the numbers speak alongside the human tragedy. The overwhelming response from the media and dignitaries tonight shows that looking at the Partition through this economic lens changes the conversation entirely.”

1947: Brexit India was previously selected for screening at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2023 and the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2024. The documentary is now preparing for its digital premiere on a major OTT platform.

Rakesh Bedi and Delnaaz Irani Bring Nostalgic Romance to Life in Love Online

0

Veteran actor Delnaaz Irani is winning hearts once again with her latest theatre production Love Online, a musical romantic comedy that also stars Rakesh Bedi. The play, which combines humour, nostalgia, retro Bollywood music and an emotional story about companionship, has already enjoyed a successful run in Delhi and is now set to travel to Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Lucknow, Kanpur and Mumbai.

Speaking about the response to the play, Delnaaz said she has stopped keeping track of the number of performances. “Honestly, I’ve completely lost count. We’ve done quite a few shows already, especially since the beginning of this year. It’s been an amazing journey so far.”

According to the actor, the unique premise of the play immediately attracted her to the project. Set in a time before smartphones became part of everyday life, Love Online takes audiences back to the era of cyber cafés, when people relied on them to chat and send emails.

“What really attracted me was the unusual idea. The play is set in a time when people had to visit cyber cafés just to chat or send emails. That nostalgic backdrop makes the story incredibly charming,” Delnaaz shared.

The story revolves around two middle-aged individuals who find companionship through online conversations. Rakesh Bedi plays a man on the verge of divorce, while Delnaaz portrays a widowed woman with a daughter of marriageable age. As the two characters gradually fall in love, the play introduces a creative element by bringing their younger selves on stage through dance sequences featuring popular retro Bollywood songs.

“It’s not just a play, it’s a musical journey. The entire production is a blend of scenes, music, dance, emotions, and nostalgia,” she said.

Delnaaz also spoke about sharing the stage with Rakesh Bedi, with whom she has worked for many years across television and theatre.

“We’ve worked together for years in theatre and television. People still remember us from Yes Boss. Even today, audiences shout out ‘Mohan ji’ and ‘Kavita’ when they see us on stage together. Rakesh ji is exactly the same warm, lovable, and brilliant actor he has always been. People’s perceptions may change depending on an actor’s recent work or popularity, but for me, he remains an incredibly admirable co-actor and human being.”

She believes their long association helps create a natural chemistry that audiences instantly connect with. At its core, the play also delivers a message about finding love and companionship later in life.

“Age is just a number. Society often makes divorced people or older individuals feel they don’t deserve another chance at love. But why shouldn’t they start life afresh if they want happiness?” she said.

Despite her extensive work in films and television, Delnaaz says theatre continues to hold a special place in her heart.

“Theatre is my first love and I can never leave it. The joy of hearing hundreds of people laugh, clap, and emotionally react at the same time is incomparable.”

She recalled one particularly memorable interaction with a member of the audience after a performance.

“A woman once came up to me after the play and said, ‘Watching your performance made me forget all my sorrows.’ Moments like those are priceless,” she said.

Delnaaz also revealed that Love Online follows an unconventional rehearsal process. Since much of the story takes place inside a cyber café, parts of the script are displayed on a laptop during the performance itself.

“Normally, a theatre production requires one or two months of rehearsals,” she explained. “But for this play, we rehearsed for just a couple of days. Before every performance, we do a complete reading together and then simply flow with the energy of the audience.”

For the actor, the immediate connection between performers and audiences is what makes theatre so rewarding.

“Television and films are wonderful mediums too,” she said, “but nothing compares to performing live on stage.”

Describing Love Online as a complete entertainment package, Delnaaz said the production offers comedy, romance, dance, music, nostalgia and emotional moments, all while telling a meaningful story.

“The songs are not randomly inserted. They become part of the storytelling. Audiences laugh, get emotional, clap, and completely connect with the story,” she said.

At a time when online dating and virtual relationships have become increasingly common, Delnaaz believes the emotions driving human connections remain unchanged.

“People still long for companionship, love, and understanding,” she said. “At the end of the day, those feelings never change.”

She also encouraged audiences to continue supporting live theatre.

“If we want theatre to stay alive, people need to come out and watch plays. And Love Online gives audiences everything, music, comedy, emotions, nostalgia, and a beautiful social message.”

Kalki Koechlin’s Belly of the Beast Explores Motherhood Through Myth and Theatre

0

What happens when motherhood changes not just a woman’s life but her very sense of self? This question lies at the heart of Belly of the Beast, Aadyam Theatre’s third production of the season. Adapted from the book The Elephant in the Womb, the play is written by Kalki Koechlin and Sheena Khalid, and directed by Khalid.

The production follows five women at different stages of motherhood, from pregnancy and labour to postpartum life, raising young children and eventually learning to let go. As their lives evolve, they begin transforming into mythical creatures that reflect the emotional and physical intensity of their experiences. Drawing from real life stories and testimonies, Belly of the Beast explores motherhood in all its complexity, capturing moments that are beautiful, frightening, exhausting, tender and deeply personal, while remaining universally relatable.

Instead of relying solely on realism, the play uses mythology to explore the inner lives of its characters. At the centre of the story are five creatures: a dragon, a unicorn, a spider demon, a vampire and a werewolf. Each creature emerges from the emotional world of a woman, giving form to feelings that are often difficult to express, including fear, desire, rage, vulnerability and resilience. By moving between everyday life and fantasy, the production transforms intimate experiences into something larger, stranger and highly theatrical.

The world of the play is brought to life through shadow puppetry, live music and movement. Created in collaboration with acclaimed puppeteer Anurupa Roy, the shadow work allows the mythical creatures to exist alongside the performers, while an original live score by Guy Hershberg adds emotional depth to the storytelling. Together, these elements create a space where reality and imagination merge and often blur into one another.

The cast includes Kalki Koechlin, Kettan Singh, Amba Suhasini K. Jhala, Rachel D’Souza, Shanaya Rafaat and Shruti Vyas.

Speaking about the production and her involvement as both writer and actor, Kalki Koechlin said, “Pregnancy is tough, birth is gruesome and postpartum is hell, but more horrifying than all three is society’s completely casual approach to one of the most epic experiences life has to offer. Only when you become a mother do you awaken to the intensity and wonder of it all, to the sheer strength of character required to create life, and to transformations of mythic proportions that are unleashed upon mothers. This isn’t a cute play on the gift of motherhood; this is you walking straight into the belly of the beast.”

Director and co writer Sheena Khalid said the idea of adapting the book for the stage immediately appealed to her. “When I read Elephant in the Womb, I was immediately drawn to its world. It was playful and something that really left me intrigued. I have always been a fan of Kalki’s writing, so when she suggested adapting it for the stage, I was genuinely excited. I am not a mother, but the research for this play completely shifted in me. The conversations with friends, the stories of mothers, and a deep dive into what it actually means to grow a human being inside you, the challenges and the glory of it, revealed far more than I had anticipated.”

She also explained how the visual language of the production developed. “I found the graphic style of the novel intriguing. To preserve that intrigue, we thought that shadow puppetry and working with overhead projectors would work really well with the genesis of the book. Also, I always wanted to collaborate with Anurupa Roy, the puppeteer. So that’s kind of how all of these things started coming together.”

At its core, Belly of the Beast does not present motherhood as a single, universal experience. Instead, it embraces its contradictions, allowing love and exhaustion, care and rage, wonder and uncertainty to exist side by side. Compassionate, darkly humorous and visually inventive, the play offers an honest look at one of life’s most transformative journeys and the many changes that come with it.

Taylor Swift’s Surprise Toy Story 5 Song Has Fans Talking

0

Taylor Swift has announced a new original song titled “I Knew It, I Knew You,” which will be released on Friday ahead of the June 19 debut of Toy Story 5. The piano led track was co written and co produced by longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff and was inspired by an early screening of the upcoming animated film.

According to reports, the song reflects elements of Swift’s country music roots while connecting closely with the story of Jessie, one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. The emotional themes in the track are said to match Jessie’s journey in the film, helping to strengthen the storytelling through music.

Toy Story 5 director Andrew Stanton praised the song and its connection to the movie, saying it felt like a natural part of the project. He described it as “a perfect fit like a long-lost family member,” highlighting how well the track blends with the film’s emotional tone and characters.

The upcoming movie will reunite audiences with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie as they face a new challenge. This time, the toys must deal with the growing influence of electronic devices on children’s lives. The story explores how traditional toys compete for attention in a world where many kids are increasingly focused on screens and technology.

The addition of Swift’s music brings another emotional layer to the film. Her songwriting style, known for its strong storytelling and personal themes, is expected to complement the movie’s narrative. At the same time, the film will also feature the return of composer Randy Newman, whose music has played a major role in shaping the emotional identity of the Toy Story series over the years.

With both Swift and Newman contributing to the soundtrack, Toy Story 5 aims to combine familiar musical elements with a fresh perspective. The film’s story, together with its focus on friendship, change, and growing up, is expected to continue the themes that have made the franchise popular with audiences for decades.

“I Knew It, I Knew You” arrives just before the film’s release, adding another creative element to a project that brings together returning characters, new challenges, and a blend of musical talent from different generations.

Alaskan Bush People Star Matt Brown Dies at 43, Brother Says Death Was Self-Inflicted

0

The Brown family is mourning a heartbreaking loss. Matt Brown, best known for appearing on Discovery Channel’s hit reality series Alaskan Bush People, has died at the age of 43. The news was confirmed by his brother Bear Brown, who shared an emotional update with fans on social media. According to Bear, Matt’s body was recovered from the Okanogan River in Washington by their younger brother Noah Brown, who also identified him. While authorities are still conducting their investigation, Bear said it appeared the injury was self-inflicted, though an official determination will come from the coroner.

The tragic news comes just weeks after fans expressed concern over Matt’s behavior online. Earlier this month, the reality star posted a troubling livestream on YouTube in which he appeared disoriented, spoke incoherently, and displayed behavior that left viewers worried about his wellbeing.

In a separate video, Bear revealed that Matt had been battling addiction issues for years. According to him, his brother had struggled with alcohol and drugs for a long time and had recently admitted to falling back into old habits. Bear also shared that Matt had been dealing with a difficult breakup and emotional challenges in recent months.

Despite speculation online, Bear pushed back against claims that the Brown family had abandoned Matt. He stated that family members had encouraged him to seek help and rehabilitation, but that Matt had largely chosen to distance himself from relatives over the years.

Perhaps the most emotional part of Bear’s message was his plea for kindness. He urged fans to remember that public figures are still human beings and warned against leaving cruel comments online.

“Sometimes words can hurt more than fists,” Bear said, noting that Matt had spoken about negative comments affecting him in one of his final videos.

Matt became a familiar face to audiences through Alaskan Bush People, which premiered in 2014 and followed the Brown family as they lived off the grid in remote wilderness locations. The series quickly became one of Discovery’s most recognizable reality programs, with Matt appearing as one of the central family members before stepping away from the show in 2019.

Over the years, Matt was open about his struggles with addiction and spent time in rehabilitation facilities while attempting to rebuild his life. Many fans admired his honesty and hoped he would eventually find stability away from the spotlight.

His death has sparked an outpouring of tributes from longtime viewers, many of whom followed his journey for more than a decade.

Matt Brown’s story is a reminder that mental health and addiction battles often continue long after cameras stop rolling. Behind reality television personalities are real people carrying real struggles, many of which remain invisible to the public.

He was 43 years old.

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do Shows Surprise Growth On Third Sunday Despite Competition

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do continued its run at the Indian box office by recording a small jump in collections on its third Sunday. The romantic comedy drama added an estimated Rs. 1.75 crore on Sunday, showing a growth of around 10 per cent compared to Saturday. With this, the film’s third weekend collection reached approximately Rs. 4.30 crore nett.

Despite the Sunday growth, the third weekend collections were around 40 per cent lower than the previous weekend. This indicates that the film is gradually slowing down after completing more than two weeks in cinemas. After 17 days of release, the movie has collected approximately Rs. 44.55 crore nett at the Indian box office.

Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Wamiqa Gabbi, Sara Ali Khan and Rakul Preet Singh, the film is directed by Mudassar Aziz. The movie has managed to maintain a presence in theatres despite facing challenges in attracting large numbers of viewers consistently.

The coming week is expected to be important for the film as it will face competition from several new releases, including Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Bandar and Peddi. The arrival of these films is likely to reduce its screen count and show timings, which could affect its box office performance further.

Based on its current trend, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is expected to finish its theatrical run at around Rs. 50 crore nett. While this would be a respectable total, it is unlikely to significantly change the film’s overall box office standing. However, reaching the Rs. 50 crore mark would help improve its final numbers after a relatively slow start.

The film has also drawn comparisons with the original Pati Patni Aur Woh, which starred Kartik Aaryan and performed strongly at the box office. The earlier film completed its run with approximately Rs. 80 crore nett in India. Reaching similar numbers has become increasingly difficult for romantic comedies in recent years, as audience preferences have shifted towards other genres.

Industry trends since 2020 have shown that romantic comedies often struggle to achieve the kind of box office success they once enjoyed. In that context, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do has managed a steady run, even if it has not emerged as a major commercial success.

Day Wise Box Office Collections

Week 1: Rs. 28.00 crore

2nd Friday: Rs. 1.30 crore

2nd Saturday: Rs. 2.50 crore

2nd Sunday: Rs. 3.25 crore

2nd Tuesday: Rs. 1.30 crore

2nd Wednesday: Rs. 1.10 crore

2nd Thursday: Rs. 1.60 crore

3rd Friday: Rs. 1.00 crore

3rd Saturday: Rs. 1.55 crore

3rd Sunday: Rs. 1.75 crore (est.)

Total: Rs. 44.55 crore
