Vanvaas disaster: Nana Patekar and Utkarsh Sharla’s movie crashes at the Box office, grosses a mere Rs 7 crore

Vanvaas, directed by Anil Sharma and starring Nana Patekar, Utkarsh Sharma, and Simrat Kaur, is nearing the end of its underwhelming box office run. Despite being an emotional family drama backed by Zee Studios, the film failed to attract audiences, opening with just ₹50 lakh on Day 1. Its first weekend collections stood under ₹3 crore, and the first week wrapped at ₹4.5 crore net in India.

The movie struggled to find footing amidst competition from the blockbuster success of Pushpa 2 and the strong performance of Mufasa: The Lion King. Further, the release of Varun Dhawan’s Baby John in its second week left Vanvaas with minimal screens, sealing its fate.

Internationally, Vanvaas performed no better, failing to make an impact in overseas markets. The film is now projected to conclude its global theatrical run with a mere ₹7 crore gross, earning it a “disaster” verdict. Poor reception and weak word-of-mouth contributed to its disappointing performance. With stronger reviews or audience buzz, Vanvaas might have had a better outcome, but such factors were absent.

Now, the film’s OTT release stands as its last hope to recover some momentum. However, even with its digital debut, the makers are expected to face significant losses, as non-theatrical revenue can only cover part of the costs.

Despite the film’s failure in cinemas, its OTT performance will determine if it can generate any post-theatrical buzz. Until then, Vanvaas remains a cautionary tale of how competitive scheduling and underwhelming word-of-mouth can derail a theatrical release.
