Bollywood’s controversial films 2013

Bollywood and controversies are inseparable! It's quite a trend in Bollywood to grab the headlines or make noise to have perfect visibility of your films. And what better way than to get embroiled in controversies! Like every year this year too had its fair share of films which landed into controversy, either knowingly or unknowingly, and created hullabaloo! Here's a list of films:

VISHWAROOPAM/VISHWAROOP: Kamal Haasan's expensive outing was mired into huge legal controversies with regards to its plotline. The film's release was protested in Tamil Nadu, resulting in an official ban being imposed on the film in the state for 15 days by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The ban resulted in similar decisions in major overseas markets. Though film garnered positive reviews, it didn't do any wonders at the Box-office

GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh invited controversy for more than one reason. In order to release the film as per the schedule i.e. November 15, 2013, the makers had no option than to alter their original title RAM-LEELA to GOLIYON KI RAASLEELA RAM-LEELA in response to an order by the Delhi High Court. Besides, the film also earned ire from a respective community. After the protests from the community, the movie was caught in the controversy when the credit of composition to a particular song was not rightly given. But the film gained huge critical acclaim and also opened to strong box-office collections.

MADRAS CAFE: As John Abraham's film was set against the backdrop of late 80s and early 90s, the Sri Lankan civil war and assassination of a former Indian prime minister, it was bound to get into controversies. Following protests by Tamil political parties and Tamil diaspora in UK, several theatres chose not to screen the film.

SATYA 2: Ram Gopal Varma's much talked about sequel to SATYA was dragged into legal controversies. The film was pressurized again & again to get postponed. Earlier Ramu was asked in no uncertain terms by authorities to sever all ties from Arun Sharma, one of the producers of the film. However, later on the reports stated that the problem emerged when the director RGV terminated the contract with the producers' company. Nevertheless, the film released as per the schedule.

THE LUNCHBOX: Though THE LUNCHBOX was widely acclaimed and had the backing of biggies, it couldn't make it to India's official entry to the Oscars and lost it to Gujarati film THE GOOD ROAD. Producers Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar & director even went on to condemn the decision of Film Federation of India. Ritesh blamed the committee. In fact, Anurag was so upset that he incessantly lashed out at the selection committee at every do he attended.

SINGH SAAB THE GREAT: Sunny Deol's film was stuck in controversy, though for a brief period, with regards to its title as a certain community found it objectionable. Not only this, even the censor board found a particular sequence where Sunny removed his turban to save a child's life objectionable. However, later on the film released without any further problems.
