Neeti, Bappi Da, KK, Arijit: Sohail Sen packs GUNDAY with singing sensations!

GUNDAY music is getting a notch higher with every new song being released by the makers. Thanks to the brain behind this brilliant composition, Sohail Sen, who has received thumbs up from both the critics and the audiences!

In an exclusive interview, Sohail Sen talks about his experience of working with new singers like Arijit Singh and Neeti Mohan, his second association with KK and getting sensational Bappi Lahiri on board for the first time for a Yash Raj banner film.

Ask him about how was it working with disco king Bappi Da and Sohail reveals, ''Working with Bappi ji was like a dream come true. This film is in 70s style when his music was very popular. So we took a lot of inspiration from him and incorporated his nuances in the song. And bang on! This was exactly what we wanted.''

So how did you sign him to sing for the Bangla version of 'Tune Maari Entriyaan' ? ''We met Bappi ji during the recording of the Hindi version of 'Tune Maari Entriyaan' where he said that he loved the song and he would like to sing this in the Bangla number and that is how we recorded him,'' says Sohail.

Interestingly, while Sohail worked with a stalwart like Bappi Lahiri, he also made it a point to include newbies like Arijit Singh and Neeti Mohan to croon for the film. Explains Sohail, ''I have always tried to introduce new singers. I have mostly not worked with contemporary singer because if we don't encourage the fresh talent then who will?

So how was the experience working with them? ''Well as far as Neeti (Mohan) is concerned, let me confess, I am a huge fan of her from the time I heard her song 'Jiya Re' from JAB TAK HAI JAAN. So when Aditya Chopra ji, Ali (Abbas Zafar), Irshad Kamil and I met for 'Tune Maari Entriyaan', I said that for this song Neeti Mohan will be the right choice and everybody agreed to it and it was a unanimous decision. And since I wanted to work with her for quite some time I felt this was the right time,'' admits Sohail.

And what do you have to say about Arijit Singh? He is a music sensation these days. How was the experience of working with him?

''You will not believe but Arijit (Singh) was unwell when he came to record 'Jiya'. But he made it a point to give his best and that is what impressed me about him,'' expresses Sen.

Sohail has teamed up for the second time with KK, last one being MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN. How was it working with him again? ''Well since it was second time there was a lot more comfort level between us. And KK is someone who doesn't make you feel that he is very senior. He is very down to earth and it is great to work with him as he gets a peculiar energy to the songs,'' concludes Sohail.

Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, GUNDAY stars Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Kapoor and Irrfan Khan and hits the screens on February 14, 2014.
