R Madhavan recently celebrated his 27th wedding anniversary with wife Sarita, and the actor once shared some honest thoughts about love, loyalty and marriage that continue to resonate with fans. Despite spending decades in the film industry and working alongside some of the most admired actresses in Indian cinema, Madhavan says staying loyal has never been a challenge for him.
In an earlier interview ETimes, the actor explained that loyalty is deeply rooted in his upbringing and family values. He said that members of his family were known for their dedication and loyalty throughout their lives, and that quality naturally became a part of who he is. According to Madhavan, being loyal is not something he has to work hard at because it comes naturally to him.
The actor also spoke candidly about attraction and relationships. He admitted that he notices and appreciates attractive women, just like anyone else. However, he said that at the end of the day, nothing compares to the happiness of returning home to his wife. For him, the comfort, trust and companionship he shares with Sarita are far more valuable than any temporary attraction.
Madhavan revealed that Sarita has always played an important role in managing their household, including handling finances. Because of this, she has had complete access to his phone and accounts for years. The actor has never believed in keeping secrets and says transparency has helped strengthen their relationship over time.
During the same conversation, Madhavan recalled an important piece of advice he received from acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam early in his career. The director told him that when a relationship is going well, there is no need to keep testing it. Constantly trying to measure how much someone loves you can often end up damaging a strong bond. Madhavan said those words stayed with him and helped shape his understanding of relationships.
The actor also remembered how some people advised him not to publicly reveal that he was married after he became a popular star. They felt it could affect his fan following, especially among female admirers. But Madhavan chose to do the exact opposite. He openly spoke about his wife, read fan mail with her and often took her along on outdoor shoots. He said he never did it to prove his loyalty. Instead, he simply did not want to put himself in situations that could test his relationship.
Madhavan and Sarita married on June 6, 1999, and together they have built a strong family with their son, Vedaant. Their enduring relationship continues to be admired by fans across the country.
