Rajesh Khanna’s Aashirwad Bungalow: Why He Refused To Sell It To Salman Khan’s Family

0

Rajesh Khanna, fondly remembered as India’s first superstar, ruled Bollywood like royalty in the late 1960s and early 1970s. At the peak of his stardom, Khanna was not just a movie star but a cultural phenomenon, commanding unmatched fan frenzy and industry power. His iconic bungalow, Aashirwad, located in Mumbai, became a symbol of this reign—an address that stood for success, authority, and near-mythical stardom. However, as fortunes shifted and a new star rose, Khanna’s life took a dramatic turn, pushing him into a severe financial crisis that nearly cost him his most prized possession.

In his book Dark Star: The Loneliness of Being Rajesh Khanna, author Gautam Chintamani describes Aashirwad as nothing less than a palace. Purchased by Khanna from actor Rajendra Kumar for just ₹3.5 lakh, the bungalow soon transformed into the epicentre of Bollywood power. Producers, directors, and industry insiders would line up daily, waiting for hours to get a glimpse of the superstar. Chintamani writes that Aashirwad had a legendary “durbar,” where Khanna would hold court like a monarch, keeping filmmakers waiting endlessly before granting them an audience.

Khanna’s conduct inside Aashirwad reinforced this regal image. According to Chintamani, the actor would appear dressed in silk lungi-kurta, seated on a chair deliberately placed slightly higher than everyone else’s. The positioning, the author notes, was symbolic—clearly distinguishing between the “king” and his “subjects.” For years, Khanna embraced this aura of supremacy, fully aware of his unmatched popularity and the devotion he inspired.

The bungalow also witnessed nights of lavish revelry. Chintamani recalls endless parties where guests were treated to copious amounts of whisky, music, and celebration. Those present sang praises of “King Kaka,” basking in the reflected glory of Bollywood’s biggest star. Aashirwad, during those years, was not merely a home—it was a throne room.

However, the tides of Hindi cinema began to shift dramatically in 1973 with the release of Zanjeer, which marked the rise of Amitabh Bachchan as the new face of the “angry young man.” Gradually, audiences began to move away from Rajesh Khanna’s romantic hero image. Films stopped working at the box office, offers dwindled, and the superstardom that once seemed eternal began to fade.

As his professional fortunes declined, Khanna found himself facing mounting financial troubles. According to Chintamani, the crisis grew so severe that Khanna was forced to consider selling Aashirwad—a decision that symbolised just how far the mighty star had fallen. It was during this difficult phase that Salman Khan’s family reportedly expressed interest in purchasing the iconic bungalow.

Through screenwriter Rumi Jaffery, Salman Khan reached out to Rajesh Khanna. Khanna was informed that Salman’s brother, Sohail Khan, was keen on buying Aashirwad. Chintamani writes that the Khan family made several lucrative offers to ease the deal. In an attempt to sweeten the proposal, they even offered to settle Khanna’s income tax dues. Salman Khan reportedly went a step further, offering to work in a Rajesh Khanna production free of cost.

Despite the generosity of the offer, the proposal deeply angered Khanna. The author reveals that Khanna had an emotional reaction when he learned of the Khans’ interest. Matters escalated further because Khanna allegedly wanted Rumi Jaffery to marry one of his daughters, considering him family rather than a mere intermediary.

When Jaffery conveyed the Khans’ proposal, Khanna reportedly lost his temper. “I consider you a son-in-law aur tu mera ghar bikwana chahta hai… Sadak par lana chahta hai!” Khanna reportedly told Jaffery, accusing him of trying to push him onto the streets. The outburst reflected Khanna’s wounded pride and his inability to accept the idea of parting with Aashirwad.

Jaffery later admitted that he had a hard time explaining his position, insisting that he was “merely a postman delivering Sohail Khan’s message.” The incident highlighted the emotional turmoil Khanna was going through—a former king struggling to reconcile with changing times and fading glory.

Though Rajesh Khanna ultimately did not sell Aashirwad during that phase, the episode remains a poignant reminder of how fleeting stardom can be. From ruling Bollywood like a monarch to facing financial uncertainty, Khanna’s journey underscores the loneliness and vulnerability that often lie behind the glamour of superstardom.

Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar Suffers ₹90 Crore Loss In Gulf Countries

0

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has emerged as a historic success at the global box office, rewriting records for Indian cinema in 2025. Despite facing bans in several key overseas markets, the Ranveer Singh–starrer has crossed an impressive $27 million in international collections, making it the highest-grossing Indian film overseas this year. Industry experts believe the numbers could have been significantly higher if the film had secured a release across the Middle East, a region traditionally known for its strong support of Indian action films.

In a recent interaction with CNN-News18, the film’s distributor, Parnab Kapadia, opened up about the financial impact of the ban. According to him, Dhurandhar suffered a major setback in terms of revenue due to its non-release in several Gulf nations. “I think this is at least a $10 million box office loss, which is roughly around ₹90 crore,” Kapadia said. He emphasized that action-driven Indian films historically perform exceptionally well in Middle Eastern territories, making the absence of Dhurandhar there particularly disappointing.

However, Kapadia also acknowledged the importance of respecting local regulations and sentiments. “At the same time, we have to respect the views, rules and regulations of every territory and country, as they have their reasons,” he explained. He added that Dhurandhar was not the first Indian film to face such a situation, pointing out that films like Fighter and several others were also denied releases in the region. “We made every possible effort to ensure the film was released, but ultimately, Dhurandhar has found its audience, if not in the Gulf, then elsewhere,” he said.

The film was barred from release in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, along with Pakistan. These territories have consistently been among the most lucrative overseas markets for Indian cinema in recent years. Despite this setback, Dhurandhar managed to outperform expectations, proving that strong content and global appeal can overcome geographical limitations.

Kapadia further credited the December holiday season for boosting the film’s overseas performance. Released in the latter half of December, Dhurandhar benefited from peak travel time, when many people from the Middle East travel to Europe and North America for vacations. “A lot of people travel overseas during this period, especially from the Middle East to the US or Europe,” Kapadia noted. “Because the film released during the holiday window, audiences were able to find time to watch it while travelling, often setting aside an evening during their trips.”

This strategic release timing worked in the film’s favor, particularly in North America, which emerged as its strongest overseas market. In just 26 days, Dhurandhar earned $27.5 million internationally, with an impressive $17 million coming from the US and Canada alone. These numbers have propelled the film’s global box office collection to a staggering ₹1101 crore, cementing its status as one of the biggest Indian blockbusters of the year.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar is a high-octane spy action thriller that places Ranveer Singh in the role of Hamza, an Indian intelligence operative. The story follows Hamza as he infiltrates the criminal network of Rehman Dakait, portrayed by Akshaye Khanna, in Pakistan’s Lyari region. Operating deep within hostile territory, Hamza gathers and relays crucial intelligence to RAW from within the ISI network, setting the stage for intense action and high-stakes drama.

The film boasts a powerful ensemble cast, including Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt in pivotal roles. Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun also feature prominently, adding depth to the narrative. Backed by slick direction, large-scale action sequences, and strong performances, Dhurandhar has resonated with audiences worldwide.

With the film’s massive success, anticipation is already building for its sequel. The follow-up installment is slated for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026, and is expected to expand the spy universe established in the first film. However, it will face stiff competition at the box office, as it is set to clash with Yash’s much-anticipated Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups.

Despite the challenges it faced, Dhurandhar has proven that compelling storytelling and global appeal can transcend market barriers. Its record-breaking overseas run stands as a testament to the growing influence of Indian cinema on the world stage.

Kareena Kapoor Finally Gets Hubby Saif Ali Khan To Pose, Shares Fun Moments With Son Jeh

Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan continues to charm her fans by offering occasional, heartfelt glimpses into her personal life, especially when it comes to family time. Currently ringing in the New Year abroad with her husband Saif Ali Khan and their sons, Taimur and Jeh, the actor recently shared a peek into her holiday through a couple of relaxed and candid moments on social media.

On Wednesday, Kareena took to Instagram to post two photos that captured the laid-back mood of their vacation. The images reflected the simple joys of travel—quiet moments, laughter, and togetherness—rather than the usual glamorous holiday posts often associated with celebrity getaways.

The first photo was taken inside a train and featured a young boy dressed in a bright red jacket, his face hidden under a hoodie. Though the child’s face was not visible, his small hands instantly gave away his identity to fans. The picture was of Kareena’s younger son, Jeh. Adding a playful touch, Kareena captioned the image, “Who that boy on the train?” along with a red heart emoji. The candid shot resonated with fans, many of whom appreciated how the actor continues to protect her children’s privacy while still sharing snippets of her life.

Sharing the picture, Kareena humorously wrote, “Finally got him to pose and this is what I could manage,” accompanied by a laughing emoji. The post quickly drew attention, with fans praising the couple’s effortless chemistry and the warmth captured in the moment.

Kareena has long been known for striking a balance between her public persona and her private life. While she is active on social media, she remains mindful about how much of her family life she shares, particularly when it comes to her children. Her holiday posts often focus on mood and atmosphere rather than staged portraits, giving followers a refreshing glimpse into her off-screen world.

Kareena and Saif’s love story began in 2007 on the sets of Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Tashan. After dating for several years, the couple tied the knot in 2012 in an intimate ceremony attended by close friends and family. They welcomed their first son, Taimur Ali Khan, in 2016, followed by their younger son, Jehangir Ali Khan—fondly called Jeh—in 2021. Over the years, the couple has become one of Bollywood’s most admired families, known for their grounded approach to parenting despite constant public attention.

On the professional front, Kareena recently wrapped up filming for Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming investigative crime thriller Daayra. The film also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in a leading role. To mark the completion of the shoot, Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios shared a behind-the-scenes photo featuring Kareena, Meghna Gulzar, and Prithviraj. Announcing the wrap, the production houses wrote, “Months of hard work, creativity and collaboration have come together to bring this story to life. Immense gratitude to the cast, crew and everyone who made this journey possible. Onward to the next chapter! In cinemas 2026.”

The film has already generated buzz, given Meghna Gulzar’s reputation for strong, socially relevant storytelling and Kareena’s return to an intense, performance-driven role.

Saif Ali Khan, meanwhile, is gearing up for his next release, Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan. The film marks Saif’s reunion with Akshay Kumar after nearly 17 years, a collaboration that has fans excited. Haiwaan also stars Shriya Pilgaonkar and Saiyami Kher in pivotal roles. Notably, the film will see Akshay Kumar in a villainous avatar, adding another layer of intrigue.

Produced by KVN Productions and Thespian Films, Haiwaan is slated to hit theatres in 2026. With both Kareena and Saif balancing busy professional schedules and family time, their New Year getaway serves as a reminder of the importance they place on slowing down and spending quality moments together.

As Kareena’s holiday photos continue to delight fans, they also highlight her enduring appeal—effortlessly blending stardom, family, and authenticity.

Saumya Tandon Breaks Silence on Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai 2.0 and Her Role in Dhurandhar 2

0

Saumya Tandon is enjoying a strong phase in her career as her recent film Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, continues its successful run at the box office. Known to television audiences for her iconic portrayal of Anita Narayan Mishra in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, the actress has now addressed long-standing speculation around her possible return to the popular sitcom and shared updates about her upcoming projects.

In a recent Zoom interview, the 41-year-old actor spoke candidly about Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai 2.0, Dhurandhar 2, and her future plans. Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai 2.0 premiered on &TV and ZEE5 on December 22, with Vidisha Srivastava stepping in to replace Saumya after her exit from the original show. The return of Shilpa Shinde as Angoori Bhabhi after nearly a decade reignited fan hopes that Saumya might also reprise her role as Anita.

However, the actress firmly shut down the rumours. “No, I am not coming back to Bhabiji at all. I have moved on to another project,” Saumya stated. She further clarified that her current commitments make a return impossible, adding, “At the moment, I am doing something else. So that is totally out of question.”

Saumya also confirmed that she will not be part of the upcoming Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! film titled Fun On The Run, which is slated for a theatrical release on February 6, 2026. The film will feature Shubhangi Atre and Rohitashv Gour in lead roles.

On the film front, Saumya shared a positive update for fans of Dhurandhar. She confirmed that she will reprise her role as Ulfat in Dhurandhar 2, which is expected to release on March 19, 2026. However, she cautioned audiences to expect limited screen time in the sequel. “My husband has died in the story, so you will see me, but you are not going to have a lot of me,” she revealed.

Despite the smaller role, Saumya expressed satisfaction with the impact her character made in the first film. “I didn’t have a major part, but Ulfat made a lot of impact, which I had not expected,” she said.

Saumya Tandon began her television journey with Aisa Des Hai Mera in 2006 and went on to appear in films like Jab We Met as Roop Dhillon. While fans may miss her as Anita Bhabhi, the actress is clearly focused on evolving creatively and exploring new chapters beyond her iconic TV role.

I wanted to go into that really young, urban, fun space of a rom-com,” she shared.

While the film carries the Cocktail title, Kriti clarified that it is more of a “vibe sequel” rather than a direct continuation. She explained that the story, characters and their backstories are entirely different, even though the core essence remains intact. Apart from the vibe, the constants include Maddock Films and director Homi Adajania, both of whom were part of the original 2012 hit.

Adding to the excitement, fun BTS clips from the sets have surfaced online. In one video, Shahid and Rashmika are seen strolling down a street, chatting casually with Kriti walking alongside them. Another clip shows Kriti and Rashmika dancing together to a tune reminiscent of Tum Hi Ho Bandhu, instantly evoking nostalgia for fans of the original film.

Kriti also revealed that two major shooting schedules have already been completed, with the third set to begin soon in Mumbai. She teased that Cocktail 2 will feature standout music and visually striking styling, handled by Anaita Shroff Adajania. Excited about her transformation, Kriti shared that she will look completely different from her previous roles.

Speaking about reuniting with Shahid Kapoor after Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, Kriti joked, “Yes, but I’m finally a human,” playfully referencing her robotic role in their earlier film. Sippin’ my kombucha on a rooftop
Smokin’ blue dream on my karma sutra
Life is but a dream for a dark skin b*tch like me
Life gets dark when you’re dark like me
Times get hard with a heart this big
Mouths get fed when your a*s this thick
Count my sheep, and I catch my Zs
I don’t read y’all tweets, I delete y’all threads
Don’t need weed to be ten feet tall
I don’t need keys when I knock down walls
Been pushin’ P since bathroom stalls
Why sell my soul when I know I’m God?

I be in the back, levitatin’
Doin’ meditation, leave me, girl, get up
Pickin’ on non-confrontation
F*ck a limitation, leave me, girl, get up
Somеhow, I know that I’ll have everything that’s minе
Mine, mine (Ba-da-da-da-da-da-da)

All that industry plant shit whack
I see it on the blogs, I see you in the chats
You s*ck every rap nigga d*ck from the back
But what’s the agenda when the it girl black?
Y’all can’t fathom that I work this hard
And y’all can’t fathom that I earned this chart
Y’all can’t stand my vibe ’cause I’m anointed
All y’all evil-as* hoes just annoyin’
Blame it on the fame, blame it on the coke
Blame it on the D’USSÉ, got you feelin’ low
Y’all wanna believe I’m on drugs and forsaken
They won’t credit me, so they blame it on Satan
Blame it on my label, blame it on my team
End of the day, everything is on me
Miss Bag Lady, little Miss-iah
Little Miss hire them hoes, then fire them

Mm, I be in the back, levitatin’
Doin’ meditation, leave me, girl, get up
Pickin’ on non-confrontation
F*ck a limitation, leave me, girl, get up
Somehow, I know that I’ll have everything that’s mine
Mine, mine

They callin’ me the intellect amongst the p*ssy rap
I still be poppin’ p*ssy, them my sisters, so I can’t agree with that
These niggas misogynistic, I’ll address it on the album
For now, let’s sink into the fact that hate don’t make you powerful
Y’all monitorin’ spirits, go monitor that checkbook
Fashion week was radical, diamonds what my neck took
Tried to turn the other cheek, but y’all just too damn extra
I had to take it to the stu’ and show these niggas pressure

Father, forgive ’em, they gon’ be hurt when I deliver
The album six months old, it need a f*ckin’ babysitter
I did eight years of failin’, plus a lot of cold winters
Used to be a starvin’ artist, now I want the whole dinner
B*tch, I want my things
Nissan to a Bentley coupe (F*ck you mean?)
Got a cosign from K. Dot (She’s Baby Keem)
God, keep me from the bitterness
Help me reach the masses, all the black women gon’ feel this shit

Mm, I be in the back, levitatin’
Doin’ meditation, leave me, girl, get up
Pickin’ on non-confrontation
F*ck a limitation, leave me, girl, get up
Somehow, I know that I’ll have everything that’s mine
Mine, mine

0

As Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups steadily moves closer to its much-awaited theatrical release on March 19, 2026, the makers continue to unveil intriguing glimpses from its dark and immersive universe. Adding a powerful new layer to the film’s growing hype, the team has now revealed a striking first-look poster introducing Nayanthara as Ganga—a character who appears poised to redefine the film’s narrative intensity.

The newly unveiled poster presents Nayanthara in a stunning yet lethal avatar. Radiating confidence and authority, she commands attention with a gun in hand, exuding a composed fearlessness that instantly establishes Ganga as a force to be reckoned with. Set against the opulent backdrop of a grand casino entrance, the visual frames her as a woman in control—elegant, dangerous, and unapologetically powerful.

Widely celebrated for her versatility, emotional depth and enduring star power, Nayanthara has long been regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most iconic performers. With Toxic, she ventures into darker, more complex territory, embracing a character that amplifies her natural screen presence while revealing a bold, unfamiliar edge. Her introduction further elevates expectations for what is already shaping up to be Rocking Star Yash’s most ambitious project to date.

After rewriting box-office records with KGF: Chapter 2, Yash returns to the big screen with Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, a film that promises to challenge conventions at every turn. Each character reveal has added depth and intrigue to its world. Earlier, Kiara Advani stirred excitement with her reveal as Nadia—graceful yet haunted, her glamour masking deep emotional scars. This was followed by Huma Qureshi’s dramatic first look as Elizabeth, whose enigmatic presence and old-world Gothic allure left audiences intrigued.

Written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas and directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic is being filmed simultaneously in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions planned in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and several other languages, highlighting its global aspirations. The film brings together an impressive technical crew, including National Award-winning cinematographer Rajeev Ravi, music composer Ravi Basrur, editor Ujwal Kulkarni and production designer TP Abid.

Action sequences promise to be a major highlight, choreographed by Hollywood action director JJ Perry (John Wick) alongside National Award-winning duo Anbariv and Kecha Khamphakdee. Produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is set for a massive theatrical release during the festive long weekend of March 19, 2026, coinciding with Eid, Ugadi and Gudi Padwa.
