Suriya’s Karuppu Creates Box Office History With Massive Collections

Suriya’s film Karuppu continues to perform strongly at the Indian box office. On Wednesday, the film collected around Rs. 11.75 crore across India. The collections saw only a 17 per cent drop from Tuesday, which is considered a stable hold for a film already earning at this level.

With this, the total collection of the film after 6 days has reached approximately Rs. 120.25 crore. The movie is now expected to finish its first week close to Rs. 130 crore. The strong performance has already made Karuppu the highest grossing film of Suriya’s career.

The film has crossed the lifetime record of Singam 2, which had remained Suriya’s top grossing film for the last 13 years. Trade estimates suggest that Karuppu could continue its successful run and collect more than Rs. 200 crore in India, which would be more than double the actor’s previous highest total.

The day wise collections of Karuppu in India are as follows:

Friday collected Rs. 19.00 crore.
Saturday collected Rs. 27.00 crore.
Sunday collected Rs. 31.75 crore.
Monday collected Rs. 16.50 crore.
Tuesday collected Rs. 14.25 crore.
Wednesday collected Rs. 11.75 crore.

The total collection currently stands at Rs. 120.25 crore.

The film is also performing exceptionally well in Tamil Nadu. On Wednesday alone, it earned around Rs. 8 crore in the state. This is now recorded as the third highest non holiday Wednesday collection in Tamil Nadu box office history, behind only Vikram and Leo. The film has also moved ahead of The GOAT in daily collections.

The territorial breakdown for Karuppu in India is as follows:

Tamil Nadu collected Rs. 75.50 crore.
APTS collected Rs. 18.85 crore.
Karnataka collected Rs. 13.75 crore.
Kerala collected Rs. 10.25 crore.
Rest of India collected Rs. 1.90 crore.

The India total stands at Rs. 120.25 crore.

The success of Karuppu is being seen as an important moment for the Tamil film industry, especially at a time when there is growing discussion about the need for more major stars consistently leading large scale films.

Akshay Kumar’s film Bhooth Bangla, directed by Priyadarshan, collected Rs. 65 lakh on its 5th Wednesday at the Indian box office. With this, the film’s total collection has reached Rs. 159.75 crore. The movie is now nearing the end of its theatrical run and is expected to close around Rs. 165 crore in India.

At present, it looks difficult for the film to cross the lifetime collection of Housefull 5, which earned Rs. 168 crore. Even so, Bhooth Bangla has already become a successful film at the box office and is being seen as an important comeback for Akshay Kumar after a challenging period following the pandemic.

The film’s performance is also being discussed because Akshay Kumar is known for releasing multiple films regularly. Industry observers often point out that his steady output helps theatres and the box office remain active throughout the year. Compared to several other leading actors who may take two or three years to release one film, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn continue to maintain a higher number of releases.

The Indian box office is often driven by star power, and regular film releases by major actors play an important role in keeping audience interest alive. Bhooth Bangla has managed to perform consistently over several weeks, especially for a horror comedy genre film.

The film continued its run in the 5th week with stable collections. On 5th Friday, the film earned Rs. 0.65 crore. On 5th Saturday, collections increased to Rs. 1.20 crore, followed by Rs. 1.70 crore on 5th Sunday. The movie collected Rs. 0.55 crore on 5th Monday, Rs. 0.75 crore on 5th Tuesday, and Rs. 0.65 crore on 5th Wednesday.

With a total collection of Rs. 159.75 crore so far, the film has emerged as one of Akshay Kumar’s better performing releases in recent years.

Matthew Perry’s Mom Says Son ‘Paid the Price’ for Trusting Assistant in Emotional Statement

Matthew Perry’s mother, Suzanne Morrison, is speaking publicly about the heartbreaking loss of her son and the deep betrayal she believes contributed to his death. In a powerful victim impact statement obtained by PEOPLE ahead of former assistant Kenneth Iwamasa’s sentencing, Morrison accused Iwamasa of enabling Perry’s addiction instead of protecting him during one of the most vulnerable periods of his life. Perry, best known for playing Chandler Bing on Friends, died on Oct. 28, 2023, at the age of 54. Authorities later confirmed his cause of death as the “acute effects of ketamine.”

According to the Department of Justice, Iwamasa repeatedly injected Perry with ketamine despite having no medical training. Prosecutors say he administered multiple injections on the day the actor died.

Court documents state that Perry allegedly told Iwamasa to “shoot me up with a big one” before entering his hot tub shortly before his death. Iwamasa later found the actor face down in the water after returning from errands.

Iwamasa pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death and could face up to 15 years in prison. Prosecutors are reportedly recommending a sentence of 41 months in prison followed by supervised release.

In her statement, Morrison said the Perry family trusted Iwamasa because they believed he understood the actor’s long and public struggle with addiction.

She wrote that his “most important job” was to protect Perry and help keep him drug-free. Instead, she accused him of arranging illegal ketamine sources and personally injecting Perry despite the obvious risks.

“But instead of protecting Matthew, he aided and abetted illegal drug taking,” Morrison wrote in the emotional statement.

The grieving mother also reflected on how closely Iwamasa remained involved with the family after Perry’s death, recalling how he sent her songs, maps around the cemetery, and updates whenever he saw rainbows, which Perry loved.

Morrison said she now believes the family “trusted a man without a conscience,” adding that her son “paid the price.”

One of the most devastating parts of her statement described the aftermath of Perry’s death, including the intense media attention outside his home.

“And then one night he was just a body,” she wrote, recalling helicopters circling overhead while she stood outside in shock and grief.

Morrison also thanked investigators for uncovering what she called the truth surrounding her son’s death, while admitting that “closure” does not truly exist for a parent who loses a child.

Iwamasa is one of five individuals charged in connection with Perry’s death. Others involved in the case include Jasveen Sangha, Erik Fleming, Salvador Plasencia, and Mark Chavez.

The case has continued to draw national attention as authorities examine how ketamine was illegally supplied to the actor in the months leading up to his death.

For many fans, Perry’s passing remains especially painful given how openly he spoke about addiction, recovery, and relapse throughout his life and career.
