The release of the trailer for Nag Ashwin’s “Kalki 2898 AD” has sparked significant online discussion, particularly due to its perceived similarities with Hollywood films like “Dune” and “Mad Max: Fury Road.” The film’s makers are facing serious accusations of plagiarism from South Korean artist Sung Choi, who has an impressive portfolio including work for Marvel Studios, Disney, Warner Bros, and Netflix Animation.

Sung Choi took to social media to express his concerns, sharing a collage that compared his decade-old illustration, published on ArtStation, with a still from the film’s trailer.

Kalki 2898 AD Trailer reaction: Fans compare the movie with Dune and says ‘One more Adipurush by Prabhas’

Fans rallied behind Choi, urging him to take legal action against the film’s makers. One supporter noted the irony that the film’s producers had previously sued a VFX company for leaking images of actor Prabhas, suggesting that Choi should similarly seek legal recourse. Another fan expressed their hope that Choi would pursue legal action, calling the situation “awful.”

This controversy adds to the complex discussion about intellectual property rights and ethical practices in the creative industry, highlighting the need for respect and legal protection for artists’ work.

Kalki 2898AD releases on 27th June 2024 in cinemas. It stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani.
