It has been over six years since the release of JAB WE MET (2007) and while Kareena Kapoor is still known as Geet, director Imtiaz Ali and she haven't come together again. Even though Kareena has worked on countless films since JAB WE MET and Imtiaz too has directed LOVE AAJ KAL, ROCKSTAR and now HIGHWAY in the interim period, somehow the audience has been kept waiting for this director-actress jodi to return on screen.
As a matter of fact, one strongly feels that for his female-centric HIGHWAY, Kareena could well have been the chosen one even though Imtiaz opted for a rather raw-n-fresh Alia Bhatt.
"Honestly, Kareena is my favorite as an actress. However we never had a conversation about HIGHWAY. The fact is I can go to her only if I can do justice to her stature. Only if I have the best for her, can I approach her. Otherwise what's the point? If I give her anything which just doesn't surpass what she did in JAB WE MET, it would be disrespectful to Kareena and her talent. I can't afford to do that, it is unfair," says Imtiaz, who has worked with a different hero and heroine in each of his four films, so far.
While one waits to see what Imtiaz has put together with Alia in HIGHWAY that releases all over on 21st February, 2014, he would soon be beginning work on his next (reportedly, with a working title WINDOW SEAT).
Interestingly, this time around, Imtiaz has repeated his stars: Ranbir Kapoor (ROCKSTAR) and Deepika Padukone (LOVE AAJ KAL), with producer Sajid Nadiadwala (HIGHWAY) at the helm.
