The coming Friday sees multiple releases in the form of Sharman Joshi‘s FERRARI KI SAWAARI, and the debut films of two new comers, CHAKRADHAAR (Abhishek Anand) and QASAM SE QASAM SE (Azim Rizvi). There is no doubt that the front runner is going to be Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s FERRARI KI SAWAARI, though it will have to contend with the might of the two week old ROWDY RATHORE!

The opening of Dibakar Banerjee’s Farooq Sheikh, Emraan Hashmi, Abhay Deol, Pitobash Tripathy and Kalki Koechlin starrer, SHANGHAI, left a lot to be desired. However, the film did show some improvement on Saturday, but that big jump on Sunday was clearly missing. Having said that, the film will still manage to get to at least an average tag, once non-theatrical rights are accounted for, given the economics (all inclusive cost of 19-20 crore). In the overseas the film has not done well, barring to an extent US where it grossed $ 108,000 during the opening week (8-10 June).

Netting a huge 78 crores during the opening week from India, ROWDY RATHORE is a hit plus. Given the fact that during the second weekend, ROWDY RATHORE has netted another 22.50 crores, and crossed the 100 crore mark from India in just 10-days (as predicted), the film is all set to be a blockbuster. In the overseas, ROWDY RATHORE has shown a marked improvement grossing ?370,000 in the UK and $654,500 from the US, till the second weekend (8-10 June).

Meanwhile for the first time since its release, Yash Raj Films’ Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra starrer, ISHAQZAADE, took a big hit, obviously due to the ROWDY RATHORE wave. Coming to the numbers the film collected 20 lakhs from Bombay, 5.65 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.75 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 2.25 lakhs from Pune, 16 lakhs from Delhi city, 3.30 lakhs from Noida, 2.20 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.35 lakhs from Kanpur, 5 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Aligarh, 2.70 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1 lakh from Jalandhar, 5 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.75 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 2 lakhs from Raipur, 1.75 lakhs from Indore, 1.50 lakhs from Gwalior, 2.55 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived),, 4.20 lakhs from Hyderabad and 4.60 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 1.50 crore, ISHAQZAADE has netted 45 crores in four weeks from India and is a super duper hit.

Concluding with Shoojit Sircar’s, VICKY DONOR, the film saw a big fall (as compared to the previous weeks), but still managed 75 lakhs, thus netting 40.75 crores in seven weeks from India. The Ayushmann Khurrana starrer is a blockbuster hit and has also done very well in the overseas (especially US), grossing ?100,000 from UK and $450,000 from the US.
