She may not be mouthing expletives in GULAAB GANG, despite the rough terrain that the film has been set in. However in the context of the film, Madhuri Dixit has indeed turned adventurous when it comes to her spoken words, lingo and an overall colourful language. For audiences who have been seeing the lady perform over the decades, this is indeed a first, especially after the aura of ada and tehzeeb that she had brought on screen recently with DEDH ISHQIYA.
Laughs Madhuri, 'Arrey but then as 'Rajjo' (name of her character in GULAAB GANG), she is dealing with the worms and dirt of the earth. And because of the kind of work that she does and the kind of character that she is playing, she has to talk like that. Rajjo has to be aggressive and since she is the woman of soil, it all comes naturally to her. She has to deal with a different set of people so she can intimidate as well as be sweet to you based on who you are.'
Isn't her family petrified to see her in this avatar? 'I don't give them a chance,' smiles Madhuri, 'Of course, in real life I cannot and won't be getting into this mode. I steer clear of any such rough language.'
If one leaves aside the colorful aspect of the spoken words, it did require some effort for Madhuri to experiment with an altogether new vocabulary and accent.
She elaborates, 'The language has a little dehati touch to it. Though personally for Rajjo, it wasn't really required to bring on a strong accent since she is educated. This is the reason why she would speak a little better Hindi than the ones in her gang. On the other hand, the rest of the villagers are speaking in a little more theth tone.'
