There has been confusion surrounding the submission of Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, directed by Randeep Hooda, for the Oscars. On Tuesday, the film’s makers announced on Instagram that the biopic had been “officially submitted for the Oscars,” leading many to believe it was India’s official entry for the prestigious awards. This claim caused a stir, especially since the Film Federation of India (FFI) had already declared Laapataa Ladies as the country’s official submission a day earlier.
Ravi Kottakara, the President of the FFI, responded to the confusion, clarifying that the information was incorrect. He emphasized that only Laapataa Ladies had been sent as India’s official entry and that the makers of Savarkar had miscommunicated their submission status.
The makers shared the news and captioned, “Honored and humbled! Our film SwatantryaVeer Savarkar has officially been submitted for the Oscars.
Thank You FILM FEDERATION OF INDIA for this remarkable appreciation. This journey has been incredible, and we are immensely grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way. #WhoKilledHisStory”
The misleading promotion on Instagram involved actor Ankita Lokhande, co-producer Sandeep Singh, and the film’s production houses. However, notably, Randeep Hooda, the film’s director and lead actor, did not share any related updates on his own social media platforms. Attempts to reach Hooda for comment were unsuccessful, and there were even reports of a fabricated quote attributed to him being circulated in press releases, which further added to the controversy.
A source close to the situation called the entire affair “very shady,” highlighting the confusion and potential manipulation surrounding the film’s supposed Oscar submission.
