Box Office bomb! Sky Force crashes and burns on day 12 – is Akshay Kumar’s career in jeopardy?

Sky Force, directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, starring Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya, is struggling at the box office. The film made a modest Rs 1.50 crore net on its second Monday and is expected to earn around Rs 1.35-1.40 crore net on day 12. However, this marks a 10% decline in numbers from the previous day, signaling a drop in audience interest.

With only a few days left for Sky Force to add significant numbers, the film is facing tough competition. Upcoming releases like Badass Ravikumar and Loveyapa, along with re-releases of popular films such as Padmaavat, Sanam Teri Kasam, and Interstellar, are set to flood the marketplace, further limiting the film’s chances of recovery. Despite the drop in box office numbers, the film has garnered some positive word-of-mouth, especially for its aerial action sequences. However, it seems that many potential viewers opted to wait for the film’s OTT release, which will happen in just eight weeks, rather than watching it in theatres.

The film’s box office performance, though not ideal, may not tell the full story, as many films today struggle to find the right audience. Even with a big-budget production and an expensive promotional campaign, Sky Force is likely to result in financial losses for its makers. The movie industry’s current trend indicates that producers are increasingly focusing on “sure-hit” films, with established genres like horror comedies offering more guaranteed returns. In the case of production house Maddock, for example, their horror-comedy universe has a dedicated following and largely recovers its investment through non-theatrical channels.
