On February 26, a fire broke out during the screening of Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava at Select Citywalk Mall in Delhi, causing panic among the audience. The fire, which started around 5:44 PM, reportedly originated from a section of the theater screen, sparking immediate chaos as smoke began to spread through the venue. However, thanks to the swift response of Delhi Fire Services (DFS), who dispatched six fire tenders to the scene, the fire was brought under control within 10 minutes. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.
Evacuation and Public Response
Veer Singh, a fan of Vicky Kaushal who was present during the incident, described the alarming scene to PTI. As soon as the fire and smoke were noticed, panic swept through the crowd, prompting screams and a hasty evacuation. The alarm was triggered, and cinema staff quickly instructed the audience to leave the theater immediately. Despite the brief moment of terror, the situation was handled efficiently without any harm to the patrons.
Mall’s Statement and Routine Operations Unaffected
A spokesperson for the mall later clarified that the fire had been caused by a short circuit in the multiplex adjacent to the theater. They assured that full cooperation was being provided to the multiplex team and local authorities, with a confirmation that no injuries occurred. Additionally, the mall emphasized that routine operations at Nexus Select Citywalk remained unaffected by the incident.
Chhaava’s Upcoming Telugu Release
Despite the disruption, the film’s success continues. Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava tells the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, starring Vicky Kaushal in the titular role. The film, which has been performing well at the box office, will also see a Telugu-dubbed release on March 7, following strong demand.
