After much speculation about its release format, John Abraham’s geopolitical action thriller Tehran is finally set to premiere directly on ZEE5 via OTTplay Premium on August 14, 2025. Initially planned for a theatrical release in 2023, the film faced delays due to distribution uncertainties, but fans can now look forward to watching it from the comfort of their homes.
Trailer Promises Gritty Action and Intrigue
The makers dropped the official trailer on August 1, and it’s packed with high-stakes drama, explosive sequences, and a powerful performance by John Abraham. The plot kicks off with three deadly blasts, raising suspicion of a large-scale terrorist conspiracy. Enter Rajeev Kumar, a cop from Delhi Police, portrayed by John in full action mode.
Rajeev’s journey, however, is anything but straightforward. As the trailer unfolds, he’s shown being hunted by Iran, abandoned by India, and caught in a complex web of espionage. Viewers are left wondering — is he a traitor or a true patriot?
Fan Reactions and Star Power
Fans have responded enthusiastically to the trailer. One wrote, “Much better than War 2… this movie deserved a theatrical release.” Another commented, “After Batla House and The Diplomat, now Tehran fire!”
Directed by Arun Gopalan and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films in collaboration with Bake My Cake Films, Tehran is inspired by true events and delves into the political tensions surrounding the 1977 Tehran coup.
