What Really Happened with Hrithik Roshan and Baahubali? Producer Spills the Beans

With the 10th anniversary of the Baahubali franchise drawing close, the fans are waiting anxiously for the cinematic release of Baahubali: The Epic an enhanced and merged form of Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. Made by SS Rajamouli, the epic series is set to return to the cinemas on October 31, which shall treat the audience with a new technical treatment and unseen deleted scenes.

Since the news was announced, the movie has been making rounds on social media and among fans with wild speculations. One very tenacious rumour was that Hrithik Roshan was first offered the title role of Baahubali before Prabhas was locked in. Producer Shobu Yarlagadda of Arka Media Works, however, has now confirmed the rumour, laying it to rest.

In an interview with Gulte, Yarlagadda explained, “I see online buzz that we approached Hrithik and things like that for Baahubali’s character. That never happened. Because from day one, it was Prabhas.” He insisted that the character was always designed keeping Prabhas in mind, and no other actor was ever really in the picture.

The choice of re-releasing the two films together as one, uninterrupted cinematic experience called Baahubali: The Epic comes as a tribute to audiences. Producers have assured that the direction is not towards box office figures, but to provide a quality theatrical experience. “To be really honest, box office is not our focus right now,” Yarlagadda posted on X (formerly Twitter). We are more or less concentrating on commemorating 10 years of Baahubali with #BaahubaliTheEpic. We wish to provide fans and film enthusiasts with the best theatrical experience and wish them to be able to experience the magic of cinema in the best manner possible.

The epic adventure boasts a brilliant star cast, comprising Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Sathyaraj, and Nassar. It narrates the tale of Amarendra Baahubali and his son Mahendra Baahubali, both portrayed by Prabhas, as they strive to regain their rightful position on the throne of the ancient kingdom of Mahishmati.

Baahubali: The Epic will be released in various formats — among them IMAX, 4DX, D-Box, Dolby Cinema, and EPIQ — and in some of the main Indian languages: Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam.

With its breathtaking visuals, timeless storytelling, and now an enhanced experience, Baahubali: The Epic is all set to rekindle the glory and heritage of Indian cinema’s most revered franchise.
