Playboi Carti is once again making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The rapper, whose real name is Jordan Terrell Carter, has been charged with misdemeanor assault following an alleged altercation with his girlfriend and a limousine driver earlier this month in Utah.
According to reports, the incident took place on October 2, 2025, while Carti was traveling from Park City to Orem for tour rehearsals. An argument reportedly broke out between the rapper and his girlfriend inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Carl Reynolds, claims he intervened to calm things down, but instead became part of the confrontation. Reynolds told police that Carti punched him in the face during the scuffle. He also alleged that Carti struck his girlfriend in the chest, though he did not witness that specific moment directly, only seeing her afterward “holding her chest in pain.”
Carti was issued a citation on the day of the incident and formally charged with misdemeanor assault a week later, on October 9. His court hearing is expected to take place in Wasatch County, Utah, later this month.
This isn’t the first time Playboi Carti has found himself in legal trouble. Back in 2022, he was arrested in Georgia for allegedly choking his then-pregnant girlfriend during an argument. Before that, he had been detained for gun and drug-related charges in 2020 and fined for punching a tour bus driver in Scotland in 2018. The rapper has yet to publicly address the latest allegations.
For an artist as influential in hip-hop culture as Carti, these repeated legal run-ins could have serious implications for his image and career. Concert promoters and brands often tread carefully around artists with pending assault charges, especially when the allegations involve violence.
