Ranbir Kapoor is busy with the production of Ramayana, one of the most ambitious Indian films in the works. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film will have the multi-faceted actor playing the character of Lord Ram. Yet, since the announcement, a part of social media has been raising questions on whether Ranbir is right for the divine character based on his previous controversies. Critics say that his previous public image and plays render him incapable of playing such a sacred figure.
In the middle of this raging debate, spiritual guru Sadhguru has stepped forward to express his support for the actor. In a recent interview with Ramayana producer Namit Malhotra, Sadhguru answered the criticism and labelled the backlash as “unfair.” Speaking on Namit’s remark on how people judged Ranbir for what he had done in the past, Sadhguru replied, “It’s an unfair judgment of an actor because he played out something in the past. You can’t expect him to become Ram.”. He can do it in another film tomorrow as Ravana.” His observation has gone viral on social media, with industry members and fans alike enjoying his even-handed view of the artistic process.
The discussion also came across regarding the casting of Kannada sensation Yash as Ravana. Sadhguru appreciated the actor, stating, “Yash is a handsome man.” Namit Malhotra seconded him, stating, “Yash is not only handsome but also an extremely talented superstar, hugely loved pan-India. We want to show all the different shades of Ravan—his faith, his intensity—and only Yash can bring that equanimity to the screen.”
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor is said to be making drastic lifestyle adjustments in preparation for playing the sacred role. According to reports, the actor has started following a rigorous sattvic diet, engages in early morning exercises and meditation, and quit drinking alcohol altogether and turned vegetarian. Friends from the production team say that these adjustments are assisting him in personifying the spiritual restraint and calmness of Lord Ram.
The shooting of Ramayana: Part One was wrapped up in June 2025, and now the film has proceeded to a long post-production phase. Director Nitesh Tiwari and his team have finished locking the edit, finalized the length, and done the first pass of VFX, states Pinkvilla. The remaining 300 days will be spent on refining visual effects to deliver a world-class movie experience.
