Why Is Kangana Ranaut’s New Film Facing a Slow Start at the Box Office?

Kangana Ranaut’s Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata opens with ₹1 crore on Day 1. The film highlights the bravery of hospital staff during the 26/11 attacks.

Kangana Ranaut‘s latest film Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata has finally arrived in theatres, bringing to the big screen a lesser known story from one of India’s darkest moments. Inspired by true events during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, the film focuses on the courage and dedication of healthcare workers who risked their lives to protect patients during the crisis. While the film’s emotional subject has attracted attention, its opening day box office performance has been modest.

According to early trade reports, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata earned around ₹1 crore net in India on its first day. The film was screened across 2,181 shows nationwide and recorded an occupancy of about 11 percent throughout the day. Although the collection is not particularly strong, the makers will be hoping that positive word of mouth and weekend audiences help improve the film’s performance in the coming days.

The opening numbers are lower than some of Kangana Ranaut’s recent releases. Her previous film Emergency had collected around ₹2.50 crore on its first day, while Tejas opened with approximately ₹1.25 crore. The film has also fallen well behind Major, the 2022 film based on the 26/11 attacks, which earned around ₹7 crore on its opening day. These comparisons highlight the challenges Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata faces at the box office despite its powerful story.

Written and directed by Manoj Tapadia, the film is co produced by Kangana Ranaut and backed by PEN Studios, Manikarnika Films, Paramhans Creations, Eunoia Films LLP, and Floating Rocks Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Alongside Kangana, the film features Esha Dey, Girija Oak, and Smita Tambe in important roles.

What makes Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata different from many other films based on the 26/11 attacks is its focus on ordinary heroes. Instead of concentrating on security forces and commandos, the story shines a light on doctors, nurses, and hospital staff who continued caring for patients even as danger surrounded them. The film is particularly inspired by the bravery of nurse Anjali Kulthe, who reportedly helped save around 20 pregnant women during the attacks at Mumbai’s Cama Hospital.

Speaking about the project, Kangana said she was deeply moved by the courage shown by healthcare workers who continued their duties despite the fear, violence, and uncertainty around them. The film serves as a reminder that heroism can be found in unexpected places and that ordinary people often perform extraordinary acts during times of crisis.

While the film has had a slow start at the box office, its inspiring story and emotional message may still connect with audiences looking for a powerful and meaningful cinematic experience.
