John Abraham is back in action with his new movie Tehran, a suspenseful political thriller that is all set for a direct-to-OTT launch. The movie is directed by Arun Gopalan and is produced by Dinesh Vijan, Shobhna Yadav, and Sandeep Leyzell under Maddock Films. It will release on Zee5 on August 14, well in time for India’s Independence Day.
The recently dropped trailer is a heart-racing peek into the story, unveiling John Abraham as ACP Rajeev Kumar, an upright police officer who gets embroiled in an international mission that’s high on risk. A string of bomb blasts in three nations—India among them—is the starting point for a global chain reaction. To prevent the catastrophe, Rajeev is sucked into a clandestine operation that leads him across geopolitical fault lines, questioning his loyalty, grit, and sense of self.
But as the mission goes on, Rajeev is left stranded by both India and Israel, and pursued by Iranian soldiers. The trailer suggests larger questions of morality and loyalty: Is Rajeev actually working for his country, or for himself?
The movie also features Manushi Chhillar, Madhurima Tuli, and Neeru Bajwa playing crucial roles, giving depth to the political suspense and emotional crux of the film. Loosely inspired by the 2012 bomb blast at the Israeli Embassy in Delhi, Tehran weaves fact into fiction to develop a riveting story based on actual diplomatic hostilities.

Fans are already thrilled, comparing John’s brooding expression and performance with his performances in Madras Cafe, Batla House, and RAW. Several are wondering why such a gripping story is not being released in theatres, but the OTT debut means a greater audience base.
With patriotic patriotism, action, and espionage, Tehran is set to be a must-watch this August 14 on Zee5.
