Karan Johar has been enjoying some busy times for last 15 years, ever since he turned director with KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI . However, never ever in his career has he seen as many as three films of his release in a single month. The unthinkable has happened though in the month of May, what with BOMBAY TALKIES releasing last week, GIPPI, arriving this weekend and then YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI hitting the screens at the end of the month.

No wonder, Karan is going through some crazy times that have kept him occupied for most part of his days, as well as nights!
‘Yes, it has been extremely hectic but then it is fun too,’ says Karan, ‘BOMBAY TALKIES was a different kind of an experience with Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar and Dibakar Banerjee. I am happy to have got into a different space with the film and the target audience has loved the format as well.’
He acknowledges though that it wasn’t an easy task to pitch the film to the market even though there were some notable names involved. Reason being that it didn’t quite have the kind of ingredients that ‘aam junta’ expects from a quintessential Hindi film.

However another film of his, a pet project no less, is GIPPI. A film being produced by him, the film has managed decent buzz for itself.
‘Yes, this is our first very tiny film with a large heart that is coming out of Dharma Productions,’ Karan says with genuine fondness, ‘It is the coming of age story of a girl. I loved the script and read it one go. First timer Sonam Nair has directed it and yet again, it is a very different and difficult film to put out there in the market. I want to position our production house in such a way that the message goes out around us pushing the bar. We are not just about hardcore commercial projects but also a company which wants to step into different genres. GIPPI is the first in that direction where different content is being rolled out.’
