CREATIVE CLASH! James Gunn and David Corenswet have different views on Superman’s climax in BTS footage

James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet, is now available for streaming just a month after its theatrical release.

James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet, is now available for streaming just a month after its theatrical release. The film premiered on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home on August 15, and is available for rent or purchase. Adding to the excitement, a special 60-minute documentary titled Adventures in Making Superman gives fans a closer look into the filmmaking process.

James Gunn Shares a Powerful Behind-the-Scenes Moment

To promote the documentary, Gunn shared a nearly seven-minute video clip on Instagram that highlights a touching moment from the set. The footage focuses on the filming of the film’s emotional climax—where Superman confronts Lex Luthor with a heartfelt monologue about flaws and humanity.

Initially, actor David Corenswet followed the script but expressed to Gunn that he couldn’t connect deeply with the lines. Instead of insisting, Gunn welcomed the feedback and the two had an open, one-on-one conversation. Corenswet, with a background in theatre, admitted that he often questions everything, which can frustrate some directors—but not Gunn.

“I love David. One of my favourite actors I’ve worked with,” Gunn says in the video, showcasing his collaborative approach. After their discussion, Corenswet returned to the scene and delivered the performance exactly as envisioned.

Documentary Available With Digital Purchase

The Adventures in Making Superman documentary is included with digital purchases of the film and provides rare insights into the cast and crew’s experiences, challenges, and creative choices.
