Michael Biopic Shatters Records With Massive Opening Weekend

The biographical film based on Michael Jackson has opened strongly at the worldwide box office. The movie, titled Michael, earned USD 217.4 million in its first 5 days. Out of this total, USD 97 million came from domestic markets, while USD 120.4 million was collected from international markets.

With this performance, the film has become the highest opening biopic in box office history. It has crossed the earlier records set by Oppenheimer which earned USD 180.4 million and Bohemian Rhapsody which made USD 141.7 million during their opening periods. It is also the first biographical film to cross USD 200 million globally in its opening phase.

Looking at individual regions, the film performed best in domestic markets. Among international territories, the United Kingdom contributed around USD 15.6 million, followed by France with USD 10.2 million. Mexico added USD 9.7 million, Brazil USD 8.2 million, Italy USD 8.1 million, Germany USD 7.2 million, Spain USD 6.8 million, Australia USD 6.6 million, and China USD 4.8 million.

The film features Jaafer Jackson in the lead role. Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, the movie still managed to attract a large audience. This shows the lasting popularity and global fan base of Michael Jackson, whose influence continues even years after his peak career.

The production budget of the film is around USD 200 million. Based on its strong opening numbers, it is expected that the movie will continue to perform well in the coming weeks. The early success suggests that audience interest is high, mainly due to the subject’s global recognition rather than critical reception.

Salman Khan’s On Set Behavior Surprises Co Star Chitrangada Singh

0

Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi is one of his major releases this year. Before the film hits theatres, his co star Chitrangada Singh has spoken about her experience of working with him. She also addressed the common belief that Salman is difficult or unprofessional on set.

Speaking at the Yuva event with NDTV, Chitrangada revealed that many people had warned her about Salman before she started shooting. However, she said her experience was very different from what she had heard.

“People said a lot of things about Salman, like schedules would be stretched and he might not be on time. People used to say he is unprofessional, but he is amazing,” she said.

Chitrangada also spoke about how Salman behaves with people on set. She highlighted that he is respectful and caring, not just towards actors but also towards the crew members who often go unnoticed.

She shared, “He treats everyone with love, looks after others, and shows concern even for crew members. He was very approachable and has that amazing quality of noticing the least visible person on set, whether it is a lightman or the fourth AD. He would ask whether they had a break and their food on time, and how they were being treated. To still have that concern after so many years in the industry is amazing. People said he wouldn’t come early, but he came early because I was shooting early.”

Maatrubhumi is a war drama inspired by real events related to the Galwan Valley clash. The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under Salman Khan Films. In the movie, Salman plays the role of an Indian Army Colonel, while Chitrangada plays his wife. The story focuses on themes like courage, sacrifice and patriotism.

Apart from Maatrubhumi, Salman Khan is also working on another film currently referred to as SVC63. It is being directed by Vamshi Paidipally, who is known for Varisu. The film has already started shooting with a muhurat in Mumbai.

This project is expected to be a big action film and is planned for release around Eid 2027. It will also be Salman Khan’s first film with Nayanthara. Reports suggest that the shooting may be completed by August or September this year.

Karan Johar Calls Out Bollywood PR Culture

0

Karan Johar has once again sparked a discussion, this time about how Bollywood depends heavily on public relations and image-building. During a recent interaction with The Week, the filmmaker spoke openly about how actors today are focusing more on creating a public image rather than improving their actual skills.

Talking about the issue, Karan said, “I think Bollywood should stop doing PR. It will be much better. They should let their achievement speak for itself because unfortunately all of the PR is now paid PR. If you want to say ‘You are looking gorgeous’, you just have to pay. If you want to say that you are the best actor on planet Earth, you have to pay.”

His comments came after a question mentioning actors like Janhvi Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor. However, Karan made it clear that he was not targeting anyone specifically but was speaking about a wider trend in the industry.

He explained further, “So I think we are on over drive mode when it comes to PR. So whether they are doing method marketing or not is secondary. They should stop marketing themselves and let their work speak for themselves. I don’t mean the people you are talking about I mean everyone in general. Because I think PR’s becoming into overdrive mode. There’s a certain way of doing it. Publicity, marketing- these are very important work categories and this should be treated in that specific way.”

Karan also pointed out that paid promotions have made it hard to tell what audiences genuinely like. He said, “Now everything is available at a price and that is something that could be deeply upsetting because then you really can’t gauge what’s connecting and what’s now. Are people liking it or are paid to like it? I don’t know, I can’t tell half the time. Its confusing me because even I am sometimes paying for it.”

His statements have led to mixed reactions online, especially since he himself has been a key figure in Bollywood’s promotion system.

On the work front, Karan shared that the ninth season of Koffee With Karan is expected to release around Diwali 2026.

Annu Kapoor Explains His Comment About Priyanka Chopra After Years

0

When 7 Khoon Maaf was released in 2011, it gained attention not only for its story and performances but also for a controversy involving Annu Kapoor and an intimate scene in the film. His comments at that time led to discussions about consent, comfort, and beauty standards in the film industry.

Now, nearly 15 years later, Annu Kapoor has spoken again about the incident and explained the reason behind his earlier statement. In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, he said that his comment was made out of frustration after being repeatedly asked the same question by journalists.

He said, “What else could it be? More than my looks, the problem was that I am not a hero. I don’t really know. When we worked together in Vishal Bhardwaj’s film Saat Khoon Maaf, several journalists kept asking me if Priyanka refused to kiss me.” He added, “They kept pestering me, and I eventually got irritated and said, ‘Maybe she would have if I was a star.’”

Kapoor also spoke about the filming of the scene and said that he was aware that Priyanka Chopra was not fully comfortable with it. According to him, he respected her feelings and even suggested that the scene should be removed.

He said, “Vishal Bhardwaj told me she was hesitant. I said that makes sense. I even suggested removing the scene, but Vishal refused. We had to go ahead with it. Actors can’t appear uncomfortable on camera, so we did it professionally.”

At the time of the film’s release, Priyanka Chopra had reacted strongly to Kapoor’s remarks. She had called them inappropriate and expressed her disagreement with how the situation was being discussed publicly.

The film was directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and was based on Susanna’s Seven Husbands by Ruskin Bond. It featured a large cast, including Irrfan Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and Alexander Dyachenko.

Annu Kapoor played one of the husbands of Priyanka Chopra’s character in the film. Even today, the film is remembered not only for its performances but also for the discussions it started around sensitive topics in cinema.

Drew Barrymore And Zayn Malik Get Matching Tattoos On Live Show

0

Actor and host Drew Barrymore and singer Zayn Malik recently shared a personal moment on The Drew Barrymore Show, where they got tattoos inspired by each other. The segment was pre recorded and aired on Thursday. During the conversation before getting the tattoos, Barrymore explained the meaning behind her choice.

She said, “I started studying what your name means and one of the words that it means is ‘grace,’” and added that it is something she has wanted for a long time. She explained, “It’s one of the tattoos I’ve always wanted because it’s the thing I’ve got to start giving myself in a different way.”

She also connected this idea to mental health and self care. She said, “Putting your name on my body in the form of grace, I think, is going to change my life for the better. It’s something I really need.”

Zayn Malik chose a different approach for his tattoo. He said, “I chose to get your name in Arabic,” which surprised Barrymore. She reacted with excitement and said, “I’m so honored!” She also added, “I’m like, I’m so excited. I’m so honored.”

While sitting during the session, Barrymore spoke about the meaning behind the moment. She said, “I’m very grateful because I hope that if and when you ever look at it, we can both just step back and maybe believe in the fact that we’re trying so hard and giving so much. And where and when is it acceptable and necessary to put ourselves in the mix of all the priorities and care and all of that.”

After the tattoos were completed, both of them looked at the results. Barrymore asked Malik, “Have you looked at your tattoo yet?” He replied, “Yeah I have. It’s really nice. It’s clean lines.” The final reveal showed Barrymore’s tattoo of the word “grace” on her wrist, while Malik had “Drew” tattooed on his forearm.

This appearance came shortly after Malik shared that he had been hospitalized on April 17 due to an illness. He later told fans, “To my fans — Thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always — been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering,” and also said, “Heartbroken that I can’t see you all this week, I wouldn’t be in the place I am today without you guys and am so thankful for your understanding.”

Malik is still expected to begin his upcoming tour for his album Konnakol on May 12. At the same time, reports about his relationship with former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson have also been circulating, although no official confirmation has been made.

The Mummy Shows Strong Hold In India With Surprising South India Boost

The Hollywood horror film The Mummy directed by Lee Cronin is continuing its run in India with steady box office numbers. On its second Friday, the film earned around Rs 1.75 crore. This is only a 12 percent drop compared to its opening day, showing that the film is holding its audience fairly well.

After 8 days in theatres, the total collection of the film in India stands at about Rs 18.75 crore, which is close to USD 2 million. The second weekend is expected to add around Rs 8 crore more. If this happens, the total collection could reach around Rs 25 crore by Sunday. Based on its current trend, the film may finish its full run in the range of Rs 35 to Rs 40 crore, which would be considered a strong performance for a small budget horror film.

A major part of the film’s earnings is coming from South India. In particular, Tamil Nadu is performing very strongly. On the second Friday, the state contributed more than 40 percent of the total collections. During the first weekend, its share was between 20 and 25 percent, but this has steadily increased during the weekdays.

Usually, Tamil Nadu contributes only about 10 percent to Hollywood film collections in India. Markets like Mumbai, Delhi UP, and Mysore generally lead. However, in this case, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are leading the performance. The Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions of the film in these two states are earning more than the English and Hindi versions across the country. This shows that horror films can attract a wide audience, especially in regional markets.

The title The Mummy is familiar to Indian audiences because of the earlier popular film series. The 1999 film earned around Rs 20 crore in India. Its sequels, The Mummy Returns and The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, collected about Rs 27 crore and Rs 48 crore respectively. When adjusted for today’s value, these figures are close to Rs 200 crore.

Even though the new film is not directly connected to that earlier series, the well known title may have helped attract attention. Based on its current performance, the film has a chance to become a successful release in India and could be one of the notable Hollywood performers of the year.

Avinash Tiwary Questions Bollywood Obsession With Abs And Box Office Numbers

0

Actor Avinash Tiwary is currently in the news for his film Ginny Weds Sunny 2. In a recent interview, he spoke about what he feels are key issues in the film industry. He pointed out that there is often a gap between what audiences say they appreciate and what they actually support in theatres.

Avinash mentioned actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Vikrant Massey, and Pratik Gandhi. He said these performers are often called “underrated,” but this praise does not always lead to strong box office collections for their films. He also added that in industries like South cinema and Hollywood, performances based on talent are more consistently supported by audiences.

During his conversation with Siddharth Kanan, Avinash raised questions about the focus on physical appearance in Bollywood. He said, “Aapko kahin pe bhi, kisi industry mein… I know I might get flak for this, par kahin pe bhi 60 saal ke log 6-pack, 8-pack bana ke ghoom rahe hain? (Anywhere, in any industry… I know I might get flak for this, but where else do you see 60-year-olds walking around with six-pack or eight-pack abs?) Even in Hollywood, Arnold Schwarzenegger is not doing that, Sylvester Stallone… there is no need to. There is no vanity or desirability that needs to be sold off. Not even in the South, why is it only in the Hindi film industry? That is a question we all need to answer.”

He further spoke about how much importance is given to box office numbers. He said, “There’s no value for the skill, craft. Audience baithke box office numbers dekh rahi hai. Kahan hota hai yeh sab? Main 20 saal se acting kar raha hoon (Audience is looking at box office numbers. Where else does this happen? I have been acting for 20 years), and there are various projects that I have done, and we can always debate what is good and bad.”

Avinash also explained that he was talking about actors who are respected for their work but may not get enough support from audiences. According to him, a lot of attention goes to surface level things, such as a shirtless photo creating buzz, while strong performances are sometimes ignored. He added that if looks are the main focus, then films might as well feature models instead of trained actors.

Although he did not mention any specific names, fans of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Akshay Kumar reacted strongly. The interview clip has been widely shared on social media, where it has received both criticism and discussion from viewers.

Bhooth Bangla Becomes A Hit As Akshay Kumar Makes Strong Comeback

The Hindi film Bhooth Bangla, starring Akshay Kumar, has started its second week at the box office on a steady note. On its second Friday, the film collected around Rs 5.75 crore. This is about 10 percent higher than what it earned the previous day, showing a slight increase in audience turnout.

After 8 days in theatres, the total collection of the film has reached around Rs 86 crore net. The film saw a drop of just over 50 percent compared to its first week, which is considered a stable performance. Based on its current trend, the film has now been classified as a successful or hit release.

This makes Bhooth Bangla one of the notable Hindi film successes of the year, along with Border 2 and Dhurandhar 2. For Akshay Kumar, this is his first hit film since OMG 2. It is also his first non franchise hit since Good Newwz.

In recent years, especially after the pandemic, Akshay Kumar has faced a difficult time at the box office, with several films not performing as expected. Last year showed some improvement, as his films managed average results instead of failing completely. Now, with Bhooth Bangla, he has a clear hit film again.

The actor is known for releasing multiple films regularly, which plays an important role in keeping the box office active. Unlike some actors who take a long time between projects, Akshay Kumar and actors like Ajay Devgn have maintained a steady flow of releases. This consistency helps the industry, as regular film releases are important for theatre business.

Looking ahead, Bhooth Bangla is expected to perform well over its second weekend. It may collect around Rs 25 crore more, which could take its total beyond Rs 105 crore by Sunday. If the trend continues, the film is likely to finish its full run at around Rs 140 crore to Rs 150 crore net.

Overall, the film’s performance shows steady growth and strong audience support, especially in its second week, which is usually a crucial period for any film’s box office journey.
