DEKH TAMASHA DEKH director not worried about protests

Feroz Abbas Khan, director of DEKH TAMASHA DEKH, isn’t someone who is new to protests. When his debut directorial affair GANDHI MY FATHER had hit the screens, many had come out on streets protesting the film’s content since it went into the personal life of Mahatma Gandhi. Now that his DEKH TAMASHA DEKH – which has a political front to it, though narrated as a satire – is gearing up for release in the thick of election season, one wonders if there would be strong reaction this time around too.

‘Well, I believe in speaking the truth,’ says Feroz, who has based DEKH TAMASHA DEKH on a real life tale, ‘When I had made GANDHI, MY FATHER, there were protests much before the promotion had kick-started. There were letters sent to me and even Prime Minister. In fact a petition was also filed in front of the President of the country. I am not worried though as truth always provokes a reaction. At the end of the day, DEKH TAMASHA DEKH is a film which speaks directly to you; it does not hold back anything. If the film will run, it would be on its merits.”

The film features Satish Kaushik, who was last seen on screen in a menacing avatar in Nagesh Kukunoor’s LAKSHMI, in a key role.

‘Yes, he represents a politician in the film,’ says Feroz, ‘He is an important character but then DEKH TAMASHA DEKH doesn’t revolve entirely around any one person. It’s an ensemble cast where you would see many fine actors and some really outstanding performances. The film will leave such a solid impression that you would be a slightly different person after watching it.’

We would love to see how that actually happens once this Sunil Lulla and Feroz Abbas Khan produced film releases all over on 18th April.
