Saif Ali Khan steps into another unique avatar, this time for the upcoming thriller Haiwaan by Priyadarshan. Recognized for making bold and unpredictable shifts as an actor, from the ruthless Langda Tyagi to the intense Udaybhan Rathod, Saif was spotted filming the project in Alibaug recently looking every bit as fierce and enigmatic as the role demands.

In the on-set glimpses, Saif comes across in a traditional look that carries an unmistakable air of authority. Sharp expressions and commanding body language with simmering intensity immediately flags off the dark and suspense-driven tone of the film. This is in marked contrast to the light-hearted and comedic space often associated with both Saif and filmmaker Priyadarshan. Instead, Haiwaan positions the actor in a deeper and more shadowed zone, hinting at a character crafted to keep audiences on tenterhooks.

The film is especially important since it teams up Saif Ali Khan with Priyadarshan for the very first time. Priyadarshan, known to be a master of genre filmmaking, pacing, and atmosphere, seems to spearhead the story toward being a taut, plot-twist-filled thriller. Needless to say, nothing works in favor of the film more than Saif teaming up with Akshay Kumar after 17 long years. The two last shared screen space together in films like Tashan, where though their roles in Omkara were not opposite each other, their professional timelines did collide at that time.

The marriage between Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana and composer Palash Muchhal, scheduled for Sunday, November 23, in her hometown in Maharashtra, has been indefinitely postponed with the cricketer’s father Srinivas Mandhana being hospitalised in Sangli due to symptoms related to a heart attack. Celebrations had commenced in the town for two days already.

According to Dr. Naman Shah, Director of Sarvhit Hospital, Srinivas Mandhana had sharp pain on the left side of his chest around early afternoon and collapsed soon after. He was immediately brought to the Sarvhit Hospital and Medical Research Centre for evaluation. Dr. Shah said that while the cardiac enzymes were mildly elevated, there was nothing new in the echocardiogram. However, continuous ECG monitoring has been advised with the possibility of angiography if required. He also cited elevated blood pressure and stress — possibly related to the frenetic wedding preparations — as possible causes for the episode.

According to India Today, Smriti Mandhana’s manager, Tuhin Mishra, said that the cricketer insisted on postponing the wedding after her father’s sudden deterioration in health. “We didn’t want to take any risk. He was rushed to the hospital immediately. Smriti is extremely close to her father, and she decided the marriage will be postponed until he fully recovers,” he said. The family is shocked but hopeful as doctors continue to monitor his condition closely.

Mandhana and Muchhal were to get married in an intimate ceremony, which saw close friends and family members attending. The pre-wedding functions — Mehendi, Haldi, and Sangeet — had already started, replete with love, culture, and smiles everywhere. A friendly Bride Team vs Groom Team cricket match, as part of this, added that extra bit of fun. Joining the occasion were several of Mandhana’s teammates — Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Radha Yadav, Arundhati Reddy, Shivali Shinde, and Richa Ghosh. The engagement came almost a fortnight after Mandhana’s brilliant World Cup campaign in which she scored 434 runs in nine innings and played a crucial role in India’s championship victory.

Public interest in the education of Samaira Kapur has increased manifold after recent courtroom revelations that her university fees, reportedly around ₹ 95 lakh per semester, had not been paid for two months. As the legal battle over Sunjay Kapur’s estate rages on, attention has turned to the daughter of Karisma Kapoor studying in the United States, and how the family dispute affects her academic expenses abroad.

The matter cropped up before Justice Jyoti Singh at the Delhi High Court on Friday, as it was told to the bench by Karisma Kapoor’s children that the fees of Samaira were pending. While asking both the parties to be discreet, Justice Singh told Priya Kapur’s counsel not to make the case “melodramatic” and sort out private matters outside the court instead of repeatedly coming back to the court.

Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for Samaira and her brother Kiaan, contended that a matrimonial decree had left the children’s education and living expenses in the care of Sunjay Kapur. He underscored the fact that the estate — now managed by Priya Kapur — had not paid Samaira’s dues. As per Samaira’s LinkedIn profile, she passed out from the American School of Bombay in 2023 and is currently pursuing her higher education in the US, whose programme is set to end in 2027. Her major is not stated, but reports have pegged her tuition at close to ₹95 lakh per semester. The university’s website quotes undergraduate fees as around USD 95,000 per year, making it one of the costliest universities in the country.

In the previous hearings, the counsel for Karisma had argued that the tuition fee of Samaira was not being paid by the estate managers. However, Priya Kapur rebutted the accusation and presented fee receipts before the court. She claimed all dues had been paid and the next instalment fell due in December.

This dispute over Samaira’s tuition is part of the broader legal challenge in which Samaira and her brother have questioned the authenticity of their father’s alleged will. The six-year-old son of Priya Kapur has filed his opposition to their plea through PTI. Priya, represented by senior advocate Akhil Sibal, contended that the challenge was based on “speculation and guesswork” as the children were present when the date, witnesses, and exclusion details of the will were read out.

Priya has previously told the court it is a “healthy tradition” for husbands to leave their assets to their wives, also dismissing allegations that the will emerged under suspicious circumstances.

The actor went further and urged society to stop policing women for every choice they made. “Main sirf ek basic common sense ki baat bolna chahti hoon ki ladkiyon ko unke kapdon ke baare mein, unke make-up ke baare mein, woh kaise life jeeti hain, kya kaam karti hain, kitne baje ghar wapas aati hain, unka wazan kya hai… unke baare mein please tippani dena band kar dijiye,” she said, calling for empathy, respect, and personal boundaries.

Over the years, Huma has grown to become synonymous with strong, layered characters. Since her breakout in 2012 with Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2, she has consistently signed on projects that either push the boundaries or spark off conversations.
