With Omung Kumar’s PM NARENDRA MODI having been postponed, the only major release of the week turned out to be Robbie Grewal’s John Abraham starrer ROMEO AKBAR WALTER (R.A.W.) along with the Oscar nominated Ashwin Kumar directed NO FATHERS IN KASHMIR.
Unfortunately RAW saw a below par 15-20 percent start and could not match up to the comparisons with a similar genre RAAZI, as the film failed to impress the critics, apparently due to a weak script and screenplay. The first day appears to be around the 4.50 crore mark, give or take 50 lakhs. Having said that R.A.W. can still make amends during the upcoming weekend. The other release of the week, NO FATHERS IN KASHMIR, was a no show commercially but given the huge accolades, the film may still be able to impress the discerning audience.
Checking out two releases of last week, Chuck Russel’s JUNGLEE and Salman Khan’s home production (Salma Khan produced) NOTEBOOK, while the Vidyut Jamwal starrer did show some improvement after a slowish opening day netting 20-21 crore during the first week, NOTEBOOK could just about manage 4.50 -5 crore during the same period. Needless to add that both JUNGLEE and NOTEBOOK have failed.
Meanwhile, after a good extended 8-day week, where the Akshay Kumar starrer KESARI netted 106 crore, the film saw a big fall during the second. But the point to note is that with more than 135 crore at the end of the second week, KESARI has crossed the highest total by an Akshay Kumar solo starrer (TOILET EK PREM KATHA) and is all set to touch the 150 crore mark, touché would!
